Welllllllll, the Mustang had a water pump failure the second time on track. What should have been a simple remove and replace operation was complicated by a stuborn bolt through the pump and timing chain cover. When that bolt eventually broke, we tried drilling it out so we could tap the hole, only to break the bit inside the hole. Managed to tap a few threads. but not enough for it to hold, and the car now sits in the garage waiting for next season.

Meanwhile, the Cooper had a hanger rust off on the driver's side muffler, which I let go because if it broke I could replace it with a nice Borla system and the wife would approve the purchase since it is stainless steel and carries a lifetime warranty. Well, the constant shaking of the system, and some track abuse led to the catalytic converter breaking IN HALF! Try to find that on the cheap.

Well after waiting for a month for the Alta system with header and catback, Borla was just too expensive, I switched to the Miltek system. The Miltek arrived in just 3 days. A big thanks to the gang at OutMotoring for cutting me a break on price and getting it to me quick.

AND THEN, the head gasket blew and the head was discovered to be cracked, both the one on the car and the one on my shoulders! This was not cheap. Oh, and when the cat cracked the heat coming out the exhuast melted the fuel lines between the tank and motor, so they all had to be replaced!

SO! With all of that I have not missed a single Friday at the Track at Summit Point this year, much to my wife's dismay. The Cooper has been getting track excercise but hopefully will get to take next year off if I can convince my wife to let me do an engine rebuild on the Mustang.

I have three track events to go this year, one for MazdaDrivers, and two for FATT, hopefully I don't break anything else!

PS

Last Friday I had a student in the car and had serious brake fade coming out of turn 4, COMPLETELY missed turn 5 and drove straight off the track. VERY embarassing. I told my student it was a lesson in off road recovery!

wow....I thought my issues were bad over the last two weeks the stock head I put on when I took the RMW off had been dropped in shipping, bending two exhaust valves. Of course we found this out after putting it on and the car was misfiring. Always an adventure

I am very interested in this group. I seem to be more focused on mods than the average MINI owner (at least the ones I know) and would like learn a lot more. Especially how to change the brakes since I'm about to melt them at a second track day.

I am especially interested in, since I own one, meeting r56 owners that have modded their cars since no one I know is modding theirs. Hey, I can't afford to guinea pig everything myself. I have a good feeling that I will find that here.

Just saying what's up. Hope to meet with/speak to/install with/etc. you guys soon.

brakes are easy. a T50, 16mm impact, some allen wrenches and a BFH are all you need

I want a bigger intercooler.. must make a call to Eric at Helix and enquire.. not sure his ECU re-code can handle the 09 JCW.

Well, I'm not saying anything, and maybe you've already seen this, but...

Krut, you won't need a reflash for an intercooler. They car will realize for itself that it's getting cooler air constantly and adjust for it.

D-unit: I've got an r56, but it's my daily driver. I do have a custom cat back and intake, and am looking into springs in the future too. What mods are you interested in? Most of my mod money goes to my BMW, but I'm not against researching mini mods. If anything I'm a good tech and can work on virtually anything. Or if you want to bounce ideas off me that will work too.

Well, currently, I'm mainly concerned about my brakes, but I just made a service appointment that should hopefully take care of that. I will need to know how to change those in the future though, or at least, know of a shop that is competent with minis and is not all the way in Virginia.

As far as mods go, I'm all over the place. Sometime I get all these big ideas about how fast/well handling/cool looking my car would be if I got all these parts, then I'm like, do I really want to spend that much money on a daily driver street car?

Of course I am thinking about exhausts, but I don't know which one I really want. I've pretty much settled on the Alta as of now, but, I actually like the sound of the stock exhaust, and I'm not sure I want to lose that. Plus, if you cut the resonator out, it should bring the burbles out, which is awesome. So, I may do that while I wait for the R56 market to evolve a bit.

I'm am definitely looking at replacing the front control arm bushings. That should all but eliminate the torque steer from what I've read, and improve steering feel/feedback. However, I'm not sure if I should just get the MINI Madness bushing for $100, or if the Alta PSRS if worth the extra $120. I don't think I will ever need to adjust my caster, I'm just not that serious with this car, but I'm wondering if the feel will be that much better. I think it replaces another set of bushings as well. Any thoughts on those?

sry 4 teh long post, guess i has lots q's

Brakes are a piece of cake.

If you are thinking of exhausts, there are people here that have different ones in the area (I think). I'd get rides with them first. If you want, you can check mine out. I got a custom one done with a chambered resonator and magnaflow muffler, all 2.5" from the cat back. Only cost me $450.

I haven't done too much research in those bushings, but I do know that if you lower the car, it seems like it limits the torque steer too. At least it did on Krut's white car. I have yet to try it with mine, but I'm waiting for the results of the TSW springs first.

Thanks for the info.

I'd really like to get rides, but I don't know anybody with an aftermarket exhaust on their R56 (other than you). If you happen to remember anyone, please let me know.

Ad far as springs go, how do you tell the difference, other than peoples' opinions? What kinda of data are you waiting on that will help you decide which is better? I'm looking at the H&Rs and the Mach Vs, and then those nm engineering ones just came out, and the TSWs as well, but there is no data on any of the sites. I's like to see some telemetry or something. Like, how much roll stock vs with springs, highest cornering speed with/without or something like that. That would really help me decide.

I'm sure Dan at Mach V would let you check his R56 out...Borla exhaust and his Technic springs. It's rare you get to try before you buy

I'm looking for a small (like <1") drop and the TSW's are supposed to fit that bill. They are also supposed to handle better and ride better, which would be a huge plus for me, as this is my daily. I'm basically waiting for people to start putting them on their cars, giving feed back and see pics.

Let me know when you want to check mine out. You aren't too far from me, I'm barely off rt 2 at rt 214. Would be a nice drive for me.

mostly due to the fact NAM is not the same place anymore. Motoring Alliance is a better run site.
