Any warranty issues?? Is the US warranty transferred to Canada?
They don't seem to care our local Mini dealer is brand new since August and they need the business, I've been there only once on a Sat. drove by just to check it out, it was 3:00 PM and they close at 3:00, but I thought I'd just take a peak, the service manager asked if he could help me, I said I just wanted to check it out, then he asked if I had any concern, I said only the front air bag, it is suppose to be off when my 8 year old girl sits in the front but the OFF light isn't on, he opened the door, let me drive in, got 2 guys on it with the scan tool, checked everything out and stayed till 3:30 PM, 3 guys including the manager, didn't even make a work order or anything, then he gave me his card and said if you have any problem give me a call, I'll be happy to help you, turns out the sensor in the seat works fine, when she sits in her weight was reading light on the airbag sensor and when an adult sat there, it read as if there was 2 person meaning it was in full mode, then we had her sitting on her leg putting more pressure on the sides instead of the middle and sure enough, the OFF light came one and the airbag was dissabled, they also found an error code on the roof and he asked about my tire pressure sensor when I swapped the wheels, basically they went through every details, after hour no questions asked.
One thing for sure, when the time comes for my wife to buy a new car, that's where I'll go.
She doesn't want a Mini but they also sell BMW, I guess if it's not a Mini, it will be a bimmer.
I guess it doesn't concern me too much because I never go to the dealer, I went with this car because it's a new place and I wanted to check it out, but for all the other vehicles I own, I never go there unless I really have to.
My 97 Jimmy went the last month of warranty because there was an oil leak, so I waited till the end and got it fixed, that's the only time it ever been to the dealer in 8 years, same deal for my wife's 95 Z28, the water pump failed, it was the only visit to the dealer and so on.
I do all my own work, even oil change, I've seen how dealers work on cars, especially the North American cars, they have a time allocated per repairs and they don't want to exceed the allocation, so they skip corners, their torque wrench is brand new, never used, broken bolts? as long as there is one to hold the piece, they'll leave it there, if they drop a nut, chances you'll be missing that one etc...
I buy my own service manual and hope no expensive parts will fail, that's about it, most people worry when their warranty expires, not me ...
Hi,
Ex-Ontario - now in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
New to NAM but have had my 2005 Cooper S for a year now (August 2004) - (JCW for about 9 months).
Interested - Has anyone else experienced either of these issues with a 2005?
Defective thermostat gasket (i.e. resultant minor coolant leak)
Recently at ~7500 km - replacement of main rear engine oil seal (i.e. small oil leak)
All warranty work - so no complaints.
Other than that, the S has been just excellent.
Hi guys, I'm born in Trois-Rivières, Québec. I'm living now in Calgary, Alberta. I have a 03 Mini Cooper S. I enjoy my car every day
Welcome, I was born around Montreal, had a girlfriend near Trois-Rivieres for a few years and now live in Edmonton, if you ever drive to Edmonton, send me a message.
First time Mini owners...and could not be more thrilled with the car! I had a BMW 3 series and an 04 Acura but they pale in comparison to my new 06' Mini JCW in EVER WAY! Mark has a Porsche 911Sc and thinks the Mini is way more fun to drive and more responsive through twisties! The best car ever !!
Obviously the feeling is infectious as since my fiance and I have gotten the car (last week) we had 2 other friends who have decided that they must have one too..
still deciding on his name. ..Zeus or Spike come to mind
I gave up my beautiful Acura Integra so that my husband could get his Black and Silver Mini Cooper. That said, I now intend to become a full-blown Mini Fan and everything mini will become my new hobbie. After all, anything worth doing, is worth doing to excess - dammit!
And by the way . . . we've named our new baby Oliver -- Ollie for short.
We pickup our new baby Tuesday evening. Oliver is a brand, spankin' new 2006 Mini Cooper Black & Quicksilver beauty. The adoption process has been a difficult one for my husband, who has pined for a mini for the past 30 years. And I have not been overly forthcoming in giving up my beautiful Acura Integra GS to help pay for Ollie. But now that I've commited to giving up one child for another, I'll become an obsessive mini mom. After all, anything worth doing, is worth doing to excess!
