I posted at the start of the winter saying I wasn't sure how my new Mini (Mini Pearl - July 26, 2008, 2007 model) would perform in harsh winter conditions.
Winter's still not over but I have had a disappointing winter. Mini had to be shipped 2200 km to Edmonton before Christmas 'cause the engine light kept coming on. Didn't have her for over three weeks.
Turns out it was some sort of clutch problem. BUT the mini really didn't like the deep freeze of 2007/2008. For three weeks in Jan/Feb we had -45 deg C weather with more windchill. I couldn't drive for over 3 weeks... but then most people couldn't drive. Hell, the propane for my house gelled at one point!
I had Canadian Tire install a battery blanket and trickle charger on Mini Edmonton's suggestion and that seems to be working perfectly. It would still be better if there was a block heater though.
Recieved a sweet set of pedals for my birthday from my boyfriend so I can't wait to install those.
Generally, it did well and with the new additions I am hoping next year will be better.
I watched a show on ice truckers, and I have an understanding what you are dealing with.....
I have heard of MINI's up in Alaska, that had a lot of special mod's to deal with the weather.
Seems like you should try and find those on this board, and trade secrets on how to equip your car to handle extreme conditions, including making your own block heater.
