Lock your car/house/boat/bike/etc!

You are all most likely intelligent individuals who always lock up your toys or houses, but I wanted to let you know how important it is right now. Here's a friendly reminder:

Whether it is the shabby economy, a general disrespect for others or a general deterioration of morals, I've known a LOT of people who have been victims of theft!

My friend had his '94 Honda Civic stolen from Kent State University's Stark Branch here in North Canton. Along with his car, an estimated 12 other cars (mostly Honda and Acura) have been stolen from this same parking lot since last January. His car was found on the west side of Cleveland, completely stripped. These thieves were so good that the alarm was still armed!

My little brother's girlfriend had every vehicle in her family broken into in one night last week. They live in a quiet neighborhood in North Canton.

My friend and co-worker who lives in Norton just had his Kawasaki Ninja stolen from his garage during the night several days ago. As karma would have it, the idiot who stole it totalled it (he's currently in the hospital) and will be facing charges.

All of this theft has been happening in nice neighborhoods, unlike most of us might expect and are being done in pretty "brave" ways. Walking into a locked garage, stealing a car in the middle of the day... these thieves, in general, don't seem to have any fear or sense.

I'm hoping we can all learn from the people I've known who have been victims.

Have a great 4th of July!
