Seriously Classic Lacks Skills

i know it is probably politically incorrect to bash Classic But Seriously

The Service Department Lacks skills in a serious way!

The most important one to start with is people skills

Is it just because I am a girl that they ask me stupid questions that make assumptions I have no idea what is the deal with my car and doing repairs on it? Because seriously that 2!$$&$ me off!

"Do you think replacing the Brake sensor will turn the light off"

My reply: UHHHH Yea!

The response... An Incredible ... "well it turned on because the brakes are worn, just replacing the sensor won't help"

My Reply, Well, I am doing the whole brake job! You mean the light won't go off with new sensors and new brakes?"

The Response... OH I didn't think you knew to replace the brakes

OMG Seriously

I go through that kind of ***** every time I go there for parts!

I hate that place!

???

If you are replacing the pads & doing the brake job yourself, why would you take it to the dealer for the sensor install? It is not hard to install, much easier than the actual brake job.

I've had very good luck with MAG MINI down here in Columbus. Might try them next time you need dealer service.

I was there picking up the part ... not to have them do it. I already was in the middle of the repair.

Do You for Classic's service dept.

No I don't.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The way I read your rant-post you made it seem like you were in Classic's service dept. I guess maybe the fact that you said service dept made me think so. My experience with Classic's parts dept has been very good. Heck they even give me a nice NAM discount.

How'd the brake job turn out? What pads are you running?

Crashton you are so funny....

Well, when I walked in the door ... having never been there to the new building yet, I encountered a sales lady who told me service is over there to get parts....

So I called the service dept...

I will say they did give me the nice NAM discount....
But the idiotic guy making the dumb comments...

Oh Lordy Crashton.... Talk about brainfarts! I just realized who you are!
TOoo Funny!

So to make matters worse... now the light really won't reset!

If I have to go back there I will scream!

It literally pains me to go out there..... Discounts and all.

So I did the 30 sec. key in 2nd position deal and it didn't reset like it was suppose to!
That pretty little brand new sensor is all hooked up and all, looking all slick and new against the pretty new brakes and shinny caliper. Man I love new how nice and shiny things are when they are new. Took me and my buddie about four hours to get it all done, .... Lots of cleaning... but they are all together... working beautifully.. But that nasty yellow light continues to glare at me

I met you at Eric's lawn party a couple of years age.

I can't help you, because I've never tripped my sensor. I got lucky & replaced the brakes before the demon sensor lit. When I did my brakes I took the sendors out & bundled them out of the way. That way I'll never have to be bothered with them.

I'd recommend posting your sensor reset issue in the wheels/tires/brakes forum. You may find some help there.

Good luck & happy motoring.

Obsessed

Well, I couldn't sleep last night knowing that light was glaring ... even though it was an off shade of yellow
I think I got it turned off by shear will alone.

So one last point to make... I know. It's wrong but please indulge me.

So this is my experience at the local hick parts store...

Guy: "Oh this is the part you need, mmmm I can get it in tomorrow, I don't have it in stock"
You are doing brakes? Do you need any brake fluid? Might as well change the fluid while you're at it? Maybe a steel upgrade? How about any tubing for bleeding? Doing it yourself? That's cool. My wife can't turn a light bulb"
Oh ... Staring at the computer.... "It looks like I can get those rotors turned, That would be ten bucks in labor, I understand if you would rather put new on, ... Oh Wait, Looks like the store two towns over is getting a delivery at 9 tonight, that means I could actually have what you need by 10 o'clock.

Me: Oh Thanks, Yeah I do need some brake fluid? Do you have XXX brand?
And I am good on the tubing. Thanks, You are right, Not worth spending 20 when 40 will get me brand new rotors all shiny and purty!

.......End...... I mean Is not Classic Mini in business to make money? Would it kill them to have a little more People skills and sell up products and jobs? Or is it as I suspect.. I am a girl so they Assume I am clueless ... and to them... that is okay!

I ordered the rest of my needs online and gladly paid shipping.
It is always like that when I go there. It must be the boobies Either Them Or Mine ROFL

It has been my experience that folks at the mom & pop places value their customers. He knows if you are treated poorly you won't be back. He's a smart businessman.

Of course Classic is in business to make money. Trouble is the person you delt with may not realize that customers are valuable & are who pays his wages. He may not have good people skills either. If I felt as strongly as you I'd find out who the boss is & write them a letter explaining how you were treated. It may help the parts person understand things from the customers side. If you say nothing to them, nothing will change.

If you were here I would give you a big hug just for letting me vent...

On a separate note, and a total re-direct... what will be do in August without Eric... While I was doing my brakes yesterday I was thinking about Eric. Even got a bit choked up... He was a good friend...
I pulled out my surgical mask while running the wire wheel on my caliper guide thinking about him and his cancer and how much it robbed us of a great man.

I hope we will find a way to come together ... that whole group of customers... all really great people and a great time to hang out and BS with everyone, with good eats and a lazy day to just enjoy the cars and the company.

I hope that doing the event in the Last week of June will become a tradition that everyone will want to come too. Just a lazy evening with good company and fun cars to gawk at.

When we lost Eric I lost my best friend. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. What a great friend & Brit car guru he was. The Brit car hobby really is at a loss without his knowledge & enthusiasm.

Funny when I think of Eric & you doing your NEW MINI brakes, I can hear him say "that's a BMW, not a Mini".

Wearing protection is a very good idea. Even though brakes no longer have asbestos in them. I'm sure that the crud/dust/vapors are still very unhealthy.

Here's a bit of irony for you. Probably 25 years ago Eric gave me a sticker that came out of a pair of brake pads. The sticker read (TAKE CARE WITH ASBESTOS). He told me to put it up as a reminder to be careful with that stuff. That sticker is still on my garage wall to this day.

If there are any plans for a picnic I'll let you know. In case you didn't know Susan is doing well.

I think it is wonderful that you plan to do an event in June. Try & make sure it isn't on top of the Vintage event at Mid-Ohio.

RIP Eric Jones

I've ordered parts from there 3 times, and they've been great. I especially like the NAM discount they offer!

Sorry they weren't so good to you, though!

Sorry to hear that you were treated poorly by Classic Parts/Service. I have always had a wonderful experience at Classic. They have gone above and beyond for me and Ziggy. Hopefully, you have a better experience next time.

Well Reboopie, I should hire you to take my place then next time, to get parts for me.

And ... To add to the insult ... That nasty yellow light continues to glare at me in defiance!
The code didn't clear.
I even unplugged the battery!

Michael's answer in the anonymous call... was a flat "That is why you are suppose to let us do the work on your car" ... Adding.. It is probably a bad sensor we sold you I can't even tell you how outraged I was. I just said Thank you but I don't think so.

Your light

My guess here is that the harness running to the sensor may have allot of resistance in it. My wife's Z3 had the same problem with an air bag light. My diag tool stated the drivers side seat belt circuit. I tested the belt latch and it was bad. No more light after a reset. I then had to replace the harness some 6 months later. It happens!

My light went out when Wellzy helped replaced brakes and the sensors. It came back on a couple of months later. The wire somehow got worn, Wellzy somehow fixed it. Where is he? I know there is also a way to weld the wire and by-pass the circuit to keep the light off forever. I quickly searched on NAM there are a tons of posts with no quick answers - ARGH!
