Seriously -- Spawn gets license in August. I'm giving the money I would have used for trip to England to visit my nana to Spawn to have a vehicle. Just need something dependable for a new driver in Ohio

As much as I hate to say it, I'd look into a Honda.

I used to work at Park Honda in Akron... these cars are bulletproof and safe. FWD should be good for the winter, too.

My friend just rear-ended a BMW doing 50 in a 1995 Accord and walked away from it. Amazing cars, honestly!

Depending on your budget, you can buy a new Kia or Hyundai pretty inexpensively and have a 10 year, 100K warranty plus all the air bags, ABS etc of any new modern car.

Subaru Outback (year depending on budget). Boring and the lower versions aren't terribly fast. Very good, safe first car ;)

I'm going to recommend a Honda too. Boring as an appliance, but about as reliable as one too. My son drives one & it's been bullet proof.

I'll second the Kia , got a spectra for the stepson and he runs the he!! out of it , It's been top notch reliable and fairly cheap maintenance ect ...
We had a Toyota Canry for him before and at 180K it was starting to nickle/dime us to death

Honda FTW

I'm going to have to agree with Chuck and 22cooperS and say Honda all the way. They are dependable, keep their value (good luck with a Kia or Hyundia), have great gas mileage, and are easy to maintain. I have owned several of them and they are superb vehicles. Plus you can support a company that is located right here in Ohio.

When we bought my son's Civic we could have bought a bottom feeder new KIA or Hyundai for the same money. Our choice was to buy a 3 year old Honda that was nicely equipped because we felt it was a better value & a better car. For our money it was Honda FTW.

I saw a pretty nice VW Jetta the other day that would probably hold up pretty well. I had one before the MINI and it was a solidly built car... It was on a used car lot for around $5500.00. If you get one with lower miles, they'll go pretty long..

Kim I suggest you look for Spawn's car in a more southern part of the state. Lots less rust down this way.
