Any BluegrassMini folks planning to attend MOTD?
Would enjoy talking with anyone who has been to one.

You don't need to worry about ditches there. Just guard rails, cliffs and mountain walls. A spirited pass through the dragon is fun. If you really want to see what your car will do AUTOX it.

If you do plan to go, call consistently to check for rooms. They fill up fast but usually there will be some cancellations. Also, and most importantly, make absolutely sure you replace those last 2 run-flats before you go!

How about those who are going, or those interested, get together to share what to expect with those of us who have not had the pleasure. Would like to have an idea what to expect.

Everything is centrally located around Fontana Village. During the day, lots of people will be at the vendors booths (most of the big players in the MINI scene are there selling/installing parts) or driving the local roads (great scenery and lots of spirited drives). At night, there are usually a lot of things to choose from....parties, dinners, hanging out with friends....there's never a dull moment at the Dragon. It's a great place to relax and see different ideas on various cars, meet new friends, get in some great driving, get some new mods done to your MINI, and just hang out with some cool people. It's one of my favorite events of the year that my family does. Actually, my wife may look more forward to it than I do.

On the "to bring" list is an FRS radio - tell me about that? Is it important?

In addition to being handy for communicating on the Fontana grounds, the FRS radios are important safety tools when driving the Dragon and other roads. We use them to warn each other of road conditions, obstructions and (God forbid) accidents.

At MSSD in October last year the lead MINI hit a couple of deer on the midnight run. I was the fifth MINI back and we were running pretty tight. The FRS radio traffic gave us all a quick heads up so we knew what was happening.

As necessary as bringing your own food. Just make sure that the radios you get have sub-channel capability. I've known several people that have bought radios that don't and they can't communicate with the rest of the pack.

LOL. The first couple of years they didn't. They now have two sources. One is a little place that does basically pizza and hamburgers. The other is a nicer (read $20-25/plate) restaurant in the lodge. We've always brought food, a cooler, and a grill. If you sign up for some of the welcome/farewell dinners you will have a minimum of meals you'll need to plan for.
