Just a heads up on the workings for an event for the last part of June 2008.
Like in the old days of wagon trains, I'd like to take a small adventure and traverse the ENTIRE Blue Ridge Parkway.
The plan at this time is to take 4 days and see the entire BRP. We start in Greensboro on a Thursday around noon and head to Waynesboro, Va which is the beginning of the BRP. Friday morning start down and end up near the NC/VA border and stay the night. Saturday morning see the bottom half and end up near the Georgia border. Sunday head home via I-40 east.
The plan is to take it slow and see the sights along the way.
This info is just the start of an adventure that I hope a lot of you will enjoy.
Post your questions now and I'll try to answer them all.
The schedule at this point is: June 19-22, 2008
Thursday drive to Waynesboro, Va
Friday Drive to mile marker 241 near Sparta, NC
Saturday drive to Asheville, NC
Sunday have a group breakfast, then head to Cherokee, NC and the end of the BRP.
My wife and I live along the Parkway near Roanoke VA. If my Cooper is here in time I'd love to join the drive at Roanoke Friday. The ETA of my Pepper White/Black is mid April, so I should be ready for motoring by then. Any recommendations on lodging for Sparta or Asheville?
We'll join y'all at dinner in sparta & hook up again saturday on the road. I read somewhere there'll be a stop @ mt. Mitchell ?? Is it still in the schedule ?
Be aware, there are several sections of the parkway closed. Primarily the part between Mt. Mitchell and Elk Mtn. Road (east asheville) due to a rock slide.
