Windshield replacement, any suggestions?

Hey everyone!

Ms. Emma has 3 cracks in her windshield. Has anyone ever had one replaced and where did you go?

Call your insurance co. They'll have someone replace it in your parking lot at work or at your house.

I've had two replaced by Safelite and they did a great job on both. If I remember right it was $230.00 each. But keep in mind most Companys, no matter what they do, are only as good as the people working for them. Do some checking first. Good luck.

$230. each? I'm on my third, and I haven't paid a penny.

just make sure who ever does it has done them before, there are more then a few stories on NAM and other sites about noobs doing it wrong and it's not known until you hit the wash or rain and then there's lot's of issues.

Todd Fulford from Roadshow Mini reccomended The Glass Guy in Little Rock. Has anyone had any experience with them? They seem really nice over the phone and have done windshield replacements on several minis. Thank you for all your adive.

One of the reasons to make sure it's someone who has replaced windshields on a MINI before is the standard A Pillar Cover cracking problem. I've lost both covers (they just fly off at some point while driving down the highway) at random intervals after the last windshield replacement on my '03 MCS. Todd Fulford was driving my car the first time it happened, which was pretty funny.

For more on this classic MINI problem, see this string in NAM forum:

At received two cracks on the Pig Trail ride. I am having my windsheild replaced by the Glass Guy. he works out of the BMW dealership in Little Rock, and has done replacements on several minis. I did read the forums about the A pillar problems so I asked if he could replace those for me as well. Thank you all for all your input. I am having it replaced this week and will post my experience.

How'd the Glass Guy do for you? Also, interested in the cost (in round numbers - if that's not too nosey)?

Well, I just had my glass replaced yesterday. He did a great job, no problems. I did go with the PPG instead of OEM glass. The PPG was $400 . I do not have rain sensors and forums said PPG glass is just as good if not better than OEM. Plus the mini cooper glass is about $600 - $800 depending on the rain sensors . Carey has also used the Glass Guy. He specializes in BMWs. He also worked on 3 other mini's the day he did mine, so he is experienced. His number is 912-8792 and he will come to your home, work, or you can come to him at the BMW dealership in LR.

Hope all the info was helpful, thanks again for all your advice. \

Thanks for the info. I will probably use him too. So far, the crack in my windshield hasn't spread any but give it some more time and it probably will.
