tires.. and a speeding ticket

I think we talked about this before, but where in the LR/Conway area do you guys buy your tires. Roadshow wants $89 plus labor, that's a little bit expensive I think.

I tried goodyear, they don't care my size.

175/65R15

oh, and arent' tires suppose to last about 50k miles? Mine have obvious wear and only 29k miles (continental brand)

PS: I got my first speeding ticket last week, and its not even worth bragging about, I was barely going 50 in a 35.. and it's a straight, flat road with nobody around, guess the cop was bored.

Its my first ever ticket, I suggested he give me a warning but he said 'ask around, I don't never give no warnings' . His name was Presley

If anyone has experience with tickets in Conway, so you have any idea how I can get out of it? At least keep it off my "spotless" record, maybe even not have to pay and get a probation or something?

Tire Rack can get them to you in probably less than a day. I have ordered from them twice and had the tires at my house i less than 24 hrs. You guys aren't too terribly far from Memphis so I can't imagine it taking much longer to get yours.

Tess,
Yes you can order from TireRack.com if you want or I'm sure you can get a tire similar locally, 195 is just a tad wider, so I'm sure it would work OK. If you go to tirerack.com, they will give you MORE INFO THAN YOU WANT about tires. I have used American Tire and Wheel here in Hot Springs twice now and have had good luck and good service, but it's along way from Conway. Oh, 29K isn't bad for a MINI tire. They are probably performance tires and as performance goes up, tire wear goes away, but you really want the performance type tires or it won't drive as well. The only problem with ordering on the internet is having them put on, but if you know a place that will service "low profile" tires, they can do it. It will cost ya to have them mounted, so don't forget that the tirerack price doesn't include mounting and balancing.

Sorry about your ticket. I don't know a soul over there, so have no idea if you can get out of it by going to court or what, sorry.

Take care,

If you're sure the 195s wouldn't cause any problems, I may go with those.

another option: I'm going to Memphis this weekend for service, Vargasgal, tell me who put your tires on, maybe I can have the tires delivered their, and have them put on Saturday? It's just an idea.

Ok, to get it done while I'm at RS on Saturday would br $480 total (90 ea tire plus labor)

Popeye, if I really need to have the performance tires, and not the $69 ones shown here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...All&loadRank=2

then I might as well have RS do it...
just thinking out loud here, if anyone disagrees, let me know

I have had tires put on at Roadshow and Alpine Autoworks. If I remember, Alpine was quite a bit cheaper - I want to say it was about $25 a tire. I also know a few people have had tires installed at Raleigh Tire. Tom at Roadshow has taken his MINI to them before and he can tell you which location is best.

I know that Tire Rack will ship directly to Alpine. I am not sure about the others. A list options will display at some point during the purchase process and you should be able to see who else is reccomended. You may want to call the installers first to make sure they will be open this weekend with the holiday and all.

I just got my first speeding ticket today too!!!!! .......

I am taking it to court with "Reasonable Explanation." Funny, mine was 50 in a 35 as well but she (of course I couldn't flirt) wrote me up for 40/35.... fee is $120 and I think 1 point on my record so I figure it couldn't hurt to try and fight it A.) I am driving my dad's truck (Mini lost my MINI- well it was shipped to the wrong port after production) so it has a different "feel" to it than my regular vehicle and B.) I had just gotten on the 35 MPH road but there isn't a speed sign until further up the road. Anyway I figure it's worth it to try, besides, if the cop doesn't show up on the date that gets set then they have to throw the ticket (fee, points and all) out the window. Hoping to at least have points knocked off of it. We'll see. Anyway I suggest you try the same, explain your situation and that you have never gotten a speeding ticket before. It's worth a shot.

I couldn't really flirt either, he was an ass from the get go.. I did smile and was nice, but he didn't budge. It was difficult to be nice because he accused me of driving a Mazda, lol. "Who makes this car, Mazda?" I was insulted!

I don't really think I was going 50mph cuz I'd just got on the road, but I guess its possible. the categories on the ticket are 0-10 mph over, 11-14 and 15-20.. how CONVENIENT! I bet the 15-20 cost a lot more than the 11-14!

I just called and explained my situation - asked what my options are.

1. go before judge, explain that i want to keep it off my record and ask for probation. If i get the 6 mos. probation and pay ticket w/in 30 days, do a defensive driving course online in or in person w/in 60 days, don't get a ticket for 6 mos THEN its done and won't go on the my record. Geez you'd think I was drunk or something!

2. Pay the ticket before the court date, it goes on my record.

So I guess court it is.

Who knows, maybe the judge drives a MINI and will be disgusted with the officer's MINI-gnorance as well. Hey, I just made a new MINI term

good term! So, I'll just tell the judge, 'you should throw this out, the officer is MINI-ignorant, he needs to study up on his makes and models. I mean what if he's in hot pursuit of one of these, and doesn't know what the hell it is?'

I think it will work. Maybe you can sway the judge with a ride in your car if he is MINI-gnorant as well

Tess- I added you to my buddy list. We'll have to give updates of of speeding ticket progress. So your officer didn't even give you a few MPH off??? Crazy bast-id!

Or you could argue that it wasn't you, it was that guy in a mazda that was speeding, and he pulled you over on accident.

Driving school? Ask the judge if they have a track. No, maybe don't ask that.

Tires

I imagine Tirerack.com has the best deal and you can get them delivered to a local company. I have gotten tires this way from Donnies Foreign Car (Donnie) and from the Firestone on Rodney Parham (Keith). I have done this for both a BMW and a Porsche. Donnie works on MINIs.
Good luck, Jim

I arrived at 7:30am as directed, the court room was packed, standing room only. The judge says he's going to call by letters, but not in alpha order necessarily. When he calls a letter, we're to line up if that is the 1st ltr of our last name. (mine is W). He calls x, u, v, z, y... then.. ok here it comes, B!!! B??? What the heck happened to W???

Five hours later he calls W. When it was my turn he looked at me, looked at the ticket and says 'looks like you're eligible for probation, see the lady over there'.

$155 fine, driving school and 6 mos probation
I asked about doing the d-school online like they told me on the phone that I could do. She says 'yeah, if you can find one online'. Well, I couldn't.
The one they want me to attend is an all day thing on a Saturday, anybody know where the TTI defensive driving school is online?

So basically speeding will take a total of 13 hrs of my time and $185 of my money ($30 for driving school). Seems a little much to me... sigh, cruise is my friend now as much as it sucks.

Oh, and I must add that there were theft of property charges, DUIs, battery, and a few other 'more serious than speeding' people that were ahead of me. I think they should call in the order of seriousness of the crime, lol. Of course that would mean they'd have to be organized, can't have that now can we?
