Hello noob here

Hi all,

I'm looking very hard a Mini right now. Actually, I'm about to order it but I'm still doing some last minute checking. I'm working in Little Rock and wondering which dealer is the preferred dealer? Dallas or Memphis?

Where are you getting the Mini's serviced locally?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Flyn G

FlynG,

I have seen a couple of Minis in the Little Rock for sale. None right now though. If I were you, I would choose the Memphis dealer. I ordered my MCS in 2004 and checked up on both locations. At the time, Dallas was charging 2000 over the MRSP because they could get it. This may have changed since, but Memphis is a lot closer. During my warranty/service time, they really treated me well. My wife and I would plan weekend trips to Memphis when service was needed or the free oil/etc change time rolled around. The city is really pretty fun. Lots of things to do as you probably already know.

If you do by a used one, Donnie's Foreign Cars seems to be the choice around here. They are located out on Markham near the Outback Steak house.

If you want to learn more about the Mini or would like to get more input, we are having a meet and greet tonight (Tuesday, 13th, May) at the San Francisco Bread Company on the corner of Markham and Bowman starting at 6:00 pm.

There's a used Mini up in Morgan on 365. Black with silver stripes. I haven't stopped to look but there it sits. I just bought my 06 S cabrio a few weeks ago. I have a Bentley manual on the way already. Memphis does seem to be the closer and more reasonable dealer. That's where mine came from originally. I plan to do maintenance myself if at all possible. I may have to stop by the meet and greet today to say hello to local Mini owners. Welcome, by the way!

Thanks. I can't do the meet & greet due to a baseball game tonight. Maybe next time.

I'm getting the same quote from both dealers but much cheaper doc fees and travel to Memphis. $100 vs $270 for a one way ticket. I do go to Dallas several times a year too so it seems more convienent for me too. I agree it is closer to drive to Memphis though. I suspect I'll be doing all of my oil changes though.

I hope to get it ordered in the next day or so.

I am out of warranty and do my own maitenance. Oil changes are pretty easy, but you do need a 36mm socket. I had to get one through MINI Mania (or another MINI parts supplier) b/c I couldn't find one locally; not at autozone or anything like that or even sears. Don't get your oil filter from NAPA. The first time I did it was fine, the second time the O ring was loose and thankfully when we took the old one off it didn't break or I wouldn't have been able to drive FS until I got another one. So I'm getting all my stuff from a MINI parts dealer. This week we'll be changing back brake pads and sensors.
Concerning which dealer to use, think about how many miles you put on between the times you go to Dallas. Will it be time for your service when you go, etc.... They won't touch it if it's not within a certain amount of miles of your next service interval. I love the guys at Memphis and will push them anytime. They've done me pretty well when it comes to service. If you change your own oil during warranty and something goes wrong they may not cover it; keep that in mind. When you do your own work while it's under warranty it may void certain things if not your whole warranty, watch that.

Anyway, welcome to the MINI fanatic world! I hope you decide to join our 'crazed with motoring frenzy' AMOK Klub. I know you can't come tonight but we meet at San Francisco Bread Co every 2nd Tuesday of the month. So maybe you can come next time. I know baseball schedules are HECTIC!!
