If you are under 18 years old and want to compete you MUST have a waiver signed by BOTH parents in the presence of rally chairperson or safety steward. No exceptions.
Sounds like a great time - from ad I saw looks like an "off-road" rally course?? Have you raised suspension or something on your MCS to get it over uneven terrain?
Yes, it's basically an off-road autocross. No, the suspension is bone stock. Where we're racing the ground is pretty even and accomidates stock level suspension.
Well, the event started off fine. Course was setup and the wreckies (rally version of a drive-through) went well. When they mapped out the course the day before, the land was dry in one area and soaked in another. So they mapped it out on the dry area. Well, funny things happen in the night and low-and-behold by mourning the dry was wet and the wet was dry. I got placed in the second run group, so I was working for the first group. About halfway through the first run group, the turn I was at started to rut pretty bad (have deep tracks in mud). By the end of that group the ruts turned into trenches; we're talking 4-5 inches deep in most areas. Then other things started looking "iffy". Rally preped cars started breaking. People in cars higher then mine were getting stuck.
I already had a suspension knock develop from the crappy Memphis roads, so I was kinda hesitant about driving the whole event anyways. But those trenches pushed me over the line. Wasn't really sure how to explain to the RoadShow MINI maintenece guys how my bumber was so muddy and not attached to my car. So some friends and I left early to get some beer and play Live For Speed. Mend our broken hearts for not driving.
But being that this was the first event ever held there, we kinda know what to expect now in terms of where to place the course. Next time we should have it more compliant for us that have stock cars.
Also, before we left we got to take a good look at the road course they have there. In hopes of moving our autocross events from MMP to there. It's a long course and wide in good areas so that we should be able to have a pretty fun design for it.
I was planning on going to this, but when the GPS suggested we take a dirt road, with the 'detour' being completely flooded we decided against and just went up to MMP.
