20 HP Indeed

On Tuesday the 6th of February, I took our test vehicle, Louise, over to Unnatural Inc. to have the new box dyno tested against the old one. I reassembled the stock box, which has been off of the car since before the Dragon ’06, and put the old panel filter back in. The guys from unnatural tied down Louise, opened her hood, turned on 3 industrial fans to give her some air, and gave her a run to redline. The computer fed back a Max Horsepower rating of 173.5. Not bad for a MINI S with just a 15% S/C and overdrive Crank and alternator. No ECU or exhaust upgrades have been made to the vehicle. It only took a few minutes to get the new box back on, but the fans had been turned off while we worked. The next run showed a small increase, and the following scored a small loss. One touch of the intercooler explained quickly that Louise was burning. After letting Louise cool down for a few minutes, the guys gave her one last run to redline. This time the max HP rating came back as 193.6. A gain over just over 20 HP withonly a new box getting more air to the engine. That is the story of my hot afternoon with Louise at the speed shop.

Randy,

I'm not really sure why you feel the need to hijack another vendor's thread? I'm sure you'd be upset if it was done to you. I'd suggest that your work should stand on its own and let the marketplace work out the rest.

Because 90% of consumers do not understand testing and how big the method effects the results.

If I post something incorrect or questionable, I am certain I would get corrected as well.

I work with Craven, and I was absolutely serious when I offered my help in testing - it is something I have done since the beginning of the MINI aftermarket, helped others with testing products.

I certainly do not see it as a hijack - it is dead on topic. This is an open market, and customers should be aware of all the options, so I welcome the other vendors coming out and starting to do installs. I think the traffic and sign ups we have are indicative of confidence others have.

In a public forum, anyone and everyone has a right to make comments that just need to be backed up with responses. I have dealt with that since 2002. I usually stay pretty low key, and because of that, I have had to deal with people telling me I don't spend enough time online - well I have dedicated much more time to answering questions, establishing a chat, and being a presence on the forum.

Do I get upset sometimes - sure! I am pretty human after all, and a fiery one at that. So I sometimes may be out of line - and maybe my original comment was out of line, but I certainly don't see it as a hijack. It is a legitimate question.

If you established a unique business segment, then watched as the rest of the industry jumped on board, literally years later, and you felt you still had much more to offer - and you were feeling saucy - you may interject as well.

Hope that helps!
Randy

No argument, but as I mentioned, you should say it in your own thread(s). You seem to like to make thinly veiled criticisms of other vendors by taking this approach.

I'm reasonably sure this is something Craven would discuss with you offline and not in THEIR promotional thread.

It IS a hijack, Randy. You jumped in their promotional thread to promote your own competing offering by inference. And as evidenced here, you continue to do so.

You are correct. It is a public forum. But common courtesy between vendors would dictate that each vendor sticks to promoting their own product here, rather than jumping in and attempting to tear down a competitor. I disagree that you stay low key all of the time. I've watched you use this same tactic of inference and getting defensive in multiple threads. Considering the good will you've built over the years in your service to the MINI community, I'd suggest you let your work do the talking.

C'mon Randy. What world do you live in? This happens in EVERY industry. New, Johnny Come Lately players, enter nearly every business and swoop in attempting to poach customers from the early pioneers. If you continue to offer a good product it will stand on its own, while the loyalty you've engendered in your existing customers will allow you to still survive and maybe even prosper.

I appreciate what you've done, but you do yourself a disservice by behaving like this, IMHO. Personally, I think your work stands best on its own merits. I wish you good luck and continued success with your business.

BTW, I won't answer any further replies here out of respect for Craven/GoMiniGo. Feel free to PM me instead.

You know what, you are right.

I apologize, and will try to work with Craven to test the product.

I'm sorry,

The prices are getting mroe reasonable for sure. When you figure the pulley is about $100 and takes a hr to install $200 for labor seems a bit steep but better than $250 or $300.

Yeah I paid $180 on labor in Dec at a local shop. My install was closer to 2 hours mostly because it was a relaxed shop that let me get in the way

Dave - are you taking orders for the BL Pulsars or will you just bring a quantity with you? I've seen it in action and I'm very interested.
