Need a windshield replacement- suggestions?

Well, we finally got a major windshield crack in the windshield (an '03 Cooper, so I guess we were waaaay overdue). I have been reading a lot of general posts about different glass mfgr's and installation tips, it seems that PPG Glass is respectable, and that we need to use a company that is familiar with Mini windshields.
Does anyone in the Birmingham area have any specific company recommendations (or warnings)?
Thanks for the info,
Jeannine

I have been pleased with Diamond Triumph Auto Glass 989-3422. You must request PPG or you won't get it. They will come to you & do the installation

Thanks for the rec. Stephen made the same suggestion, so we went with Diamond yesterday. They ordered PPG glass for us and the installation went beautifully. So far I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks!

so i have a nice crack forming on my windshield and it will need to be replaced. i've seen triumph glass mentioned as a good local company. i have an 08 R56 with the automatic rain sensor, has anyone gotten that windshield replaced locally? can triumph glass get an OEM windshield instead of PPG?

Thanks for any info!

OEM glass from Diamond Triumph

I don't know if they can order it, but call them and find out. They are great people and can answer any of your questions.
Let us know how it turns out!
Good luck

I would steer you away from OEM glass. All I have ever heard is what crap it is. So many MINIS gets cracks & runs from minute incidents with OEM glass. Aftermarket glass really seems to hold up better but it's totally up to you of course

i've set up with diamond triumph glass to get a new oem rain sensing windshield- its special order. it's no cost to me thru my insurance, so if oem is crappier, doesnt really matter because it doesnt cost me anything to keep getting it replaced.

What if you have to have your windshield replaced 2 times a year? Would it matter then? It might matter to your insurance company Not saying it will happen & I hope it doesn't but if you have incident with your OEM glass again I hope you will peruse the NAM threads to see all of the problems others have reported experiencing with OEM glass & the aftermarket solutions they have found

I had the windshield in my '03 MCS replaced by the dealer - I hope your experience is better than mine. I've been back 3 times so far and I'm still not happy. I have wind noise and whistles/roars/shreiks where I never had them before. Next time I'll go aftermarket, after all - who's more qualified to give you a good job, the MINI tech who does 1 or 2 a month, or the glass guy who does 5 before lunch each day?
