FOR ALL OF THOSE COMING DOWN I81/I40

Just a heads up:

For those of you coming down I81/I40...you'll start seeing signs that I40's closed. Don't panic..they're kinda fibbing. Parts of it actually are, but not the whole thing

640,the bypass will dump you beyond exit 386 /129SOUTH.
If you take the bypass, at the end head EAST back towards Knoxville, so you can get off at 386. The exit's a little hairy, as it's just defined by traffic cones, so be careful!

Go ahead..ask me how I know all this

Anyone, Should I consider getting off 81 below Bristol coming down through Johnson City and Asheville (Rt 26 & 23), then heading west on 23 which connects to 28 coming in from the east? MY GPS says only 15 minutes longer but it would by pass Knoxville completely, and that construction.

You can cut over to the Dragon of I-40 near Asheville.

Thanks, but that's the default route Katie is mentioning the problems with in the root of the thread, I'm exploring options that avoid that last stretch of 40/81...

mmatarella, what time are you heading down Thursday? My wife and I will be departing Charlottesville around lunchtime if you want to meet up somewhere near the I-81, I-64 interchange.
