Highlands Rib Run - Friday Lunch/Day Drive

There is a restaurant in Highlands, NC, that I have always wanted to try. I have been told by many that it is awesome..... The Rib Shack.

The Highlands Rib Run will depart from the Fontana General Store @ 9:30AM

After lunch you will have an option of what to do next, check out the info.

(We will be back in time for the Brewswap! )

I think we have something else planned when this is scheduled, but I highly recommend the drive to Highlands. We did it last year and the scenery and roads were awesome.

One of the reasons I decided to do this run was because all the others were full.

Probably going to stick with my schedule as it is but the River's End drive wasn't the one that was causing the problem, it was the Heinzelmannchen Brewery run that is happening at the same time.

took this drive a couple of years ago and remember there were several sections of 28 as you drove to Franklin that were very "Dragon Like" (unfortunately I was in a MINI-van at the time )

Could we make a detour to Wayah Rd. on route to Highlands? Anyone who has driven Wayah Rd. knows it is one of the best in the area.

The Wayah Road detour adds ~45 minutes to the original tour.

I might add it to the after lunch optional drive, problem is, some including me have to get back for the Brewswap. Although I can pick up the beer from my house on the way back to Fontana!

The grocery store in Highlands has a fine beer and wine selection.

Thanks very much for bringing this about. I was feeling a bit deprived upon learning that the Brewery Run was closed out - but no longer! This is a marvellous drive; and the BBQ sounds great. I went all Pavolovian over the RibShack menu. Think I'll double up on the Lipitor that day!

Steve,
Do the Pittstop minis ever make runs over to laurel Highlands or up to the Original Quaker Steak and Lube? Nice back roads to both places. Another place would be up to Presque Isle in Erie, that would have to be an over nighter but a lot of great roads to and from Erie-Pittsburgh.

Yes, we go all over. We have had our annual membership meeting at 7 Springs and The Summit.

We have had Poker Runs, Wine tastings etc.

We have never been to Quaker Steak specifically, but have been all over Butler county. North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock, Foxburg Inn.

I live in Irwin, so I am in the Laurel Highlands all the time ;-)

We have talked about Presque Isle as well, but never had a club outing up there.

We have a trip to the Cleveland area coming up on June 6th to join "The Pub" Cruise hosted by Burning River MINIs. We will also be going to the Mid-Ohio Grand Prix on June 27th, MINI is the marque this year.

Tomorrow, is the first Wexford Starlite Cruise of the year, a few members will be there. We will also have a few at BeaveRun on May 30th for Open Track Lapping.

The Website has more information.

Steve
