Fuel availability?

This will be my first trip to MOTD. What is the availability of Top Tier gas stations in the local area of Robbinsville, Fontana Village, etc?

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

Thanks in advance.

Zero. Seriously. Live with it.

There are only "private label" gas stations in Robbinsville, Fontana and Deal's Gap, i.e. within 30 miles of MOTD HQ. There MAY be some top-tier stations in Tellico Plains, Vanore, Bryson City, Franklin, etc.

I only run top tier in my car, also... almost always Shell... EXCEPT when I go to the Dragon... then the rule is "when you see a gas pump with less than four cars in line, FILL UP.

Driving for a few days on inferior gas won't make a difference in the long lifetime of your engine. If you're really concerned, bring a few bottles of Techron or other additive of your choice...

Pretty sure the last time I was there in the fall it had changed to a no-name - still looks like a Texaco.... but wasn't... but maybe I'm delusional again...

It's not THAT far down Hwy. 28 to US 74, and there are plenty of top tier stations along that route. Heck, one might even make it fun and do some "exploring" on the back roads on his/her way back to Fontana, while marking the locations of the "desired" fuel stops along the way.

In the airport, just left Fontana this morning. Fontana now owns and runs the gas station at the main entrance. They will make sure they have plenty of gas for us and will not raise the price as happened in the past.

In Robbinsville, they have the following gas stations:
Texaco
Solo
Time Out
Midnight Oil

Don't forget, gas is a good .20 a gallon cheaper in Tenn. Yea I know that amounts to about 2.60 per tank full. But if your there.....

When we were there last weekend, the premium at Fontana was about $2.82/gal. If you drive out from Fontana, you'll find fuel about 50 cents cheaper. Whether or not that's worth it for you is up to you!

If you are going through Chattanooga, you can top off in Andrews. The gas prices in Andrews are typically cheaper than in the Nantahala/Fontana area.

Yep - if you take advantage of the DRIVING while there - and go other places than the Dragon (Wayah Road, Franklin, Dillsboro, Highlands, Vanore, Telico Plains, etc.) then you'll see lots of gas options, most are less expensive than around Fontana/Robbinsvillle.

A good guideline at MOTD - if you see gas, and there isn't a line, FILL UP NOW. Even if you still have half a tank....
