maybe all us volunteers should volunteer OTHER people in our place for next year to give everyone the shared experience of making MOTD successful (and stressful on the individuals helping out)... after all, mom always said to share EVERYTHING and i'm up for passing the torch in the general direction of people that complained that it wasn't good enough for different reasons... they must have some ideas of how to make it better next year

Several things about this thread really bother me.

<rant>
1: Call. Who in God's name appointed you Chief Financial Officer of MotD?? What's that you said? Oh, that's right, the answer is NO ONE! I think it's time for you to back off. You are one of the biggest causes of trouble and strife and the sole reason that the thread about Big Daddy's accident was closed. You just don't know when enough is enough so, here is a public service announcement from me to you. ENOUGH!!!

2: The attacks on DCMM. It has been publicly posted that they are a business entity. Businesses must make money or they will not survive. It's simple economics! It is commendable, IMHO, that they made a sizeable donation to a charity with the proceeds from their event. As an aside... Katy from DCMM. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats in the tent at the information table! You remind me a LOT of my dear departed mother. No dear lady, not in age, in wisdom and pure un-bridled spunk!

3: Everyone else who is making unsubstantiated, unproven accusations at Mark, DCMM or anyone else should, in my humble opinion, either post irrefutable, independently verifiable facts or STFU!

The lot of you have nearly driven Mark, the founder of NAM and the guy who was a major player in bringing the American Mini enthusiast community together away from MotD and other events entirely! Yes, he makes money doing what he enjoys! He has admitted that. What is YOUR problem with that?? Could it be the green-eyed monster rearing it's ugly head? Does it bother you that he found a way to make a living doing what he loves to do? If so, TOUGH!!!! Go find your own path to happiness and stop being gutless message board warriors bent on destroying a good thing.

</rant>

EVERYBODY PLEASE take a chill pill and step away from the keyboard for a while... I have a couple of cold kegs in the fridge and a guest room if anyone would like to stop by here and chill out....

Hey Katy... do I owe you anything for the spaghetti? I mean with how greedy you must be, I feel like I stole from you.

I think it's blatantly obvious from this thread that the folks who registered and came to NAM had an amazing time, so I doubt the complaints listed here are going to contribute to any significant drop in attendance (besides, some of the complainers didn't even register or even ATTEND!).

I just hope the few bad apples don't drive the great folks who have coordinated this event away. I hope to see each of you again next year!

Some of y'all have a bit of an issue with MOTD getting to commercial. Has anyone taken a good look at this MTTS lineup yet?

This is from the Chicago stop:

Quote:
Festival Events and Activities (Partners)

MINI Cross Course (Automobile / Autotrend / European Car)
Go-Karting (Road & Track / Car and Driver)
Festival Fun Zone
Rock Climbing (National Geo Adventure)
Mountain Bike Stunt Show (Outside Magazine)
Free Massages (Best Life)
Eurobungee
MINI Market
Car Wash (Good)
Boot Sale
Chak Talk with Grass Roots Motorsports
Live Music on Rolling Stone Music Stage (Blender / Paste / Spin)
Someone wanna tell me how the majority of these "sponsors" have anything to do with MINI's. Think MOTD is a sell out...ha..MINI sold us all down the river. Oh you want to sell MINI stuff. Represent yourself like a Helix, or Detroit Tunes or Stance Designs. Sure, you can get a 10x10 tent, 2 table and 2 chairs for $150 IF MINI approves you. Oh yeah, you can only sell between 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 AM to 3:00 pm on Sunday. How much you want to bet the majority the Boot Sale, as they call it, vendors are not the same folks that we all know that support NAM, MC2, AMVIV, MTTS, MOTD and our clubs on a day to day basis.

What gets my goat is this is being held at Road America, one of the best natural terrain road courses in the US and there is no chance for hot laps.

Cry all you like about MOTD losing it's luster...but look at what it could of become.

I know this may be asking too much, but is there any chance we could get back to just offering ideas about things we liked and constructive criticism on things we did not.

I love the overall event. It was my third Dragon and I felt the four day format made it more relaxing. I thought the MINI car show was a great addition, but would be awesome if us ham and eggers got to vote. I enjoyed the three dinners that I paid for. I would like to see the local food drive for next year!! I thought the information booth was another great addition also.
I think with some minor tweaking 2009 is gonna rock!!

My least favorite part was the 10 hour drive home

Another +1 vote for the 4 day format... MUCH better IMHO... felt like I actually had some time there to do some stuff, vs. just driving to and from (of course, I know many go early or stay late...). Local food drive is a fantastic idea.

Our club (who previously sponsored / ran the drive in movie) would like to sponsor SOMETHING next year.... but not sure what... pls keep me in the loop as plans start to unfold... wish we had another good spot for the movie... drive-in is just much cooler than "sit-in"....

Heard several folks missing the drive-in. Gotta say that walking around fontana at night and seeing all those MINIs snuggled on the field watching a movie together was a rather awesome sight

This being the first drive in I don't know what I'm missing but a drive-in, or at leas movie night would be cool. I know in the past they used the baseball diamond for the theater but with the tent (Which was a great thing) that's not practical any more. Is there any way a screen could be set up in the lower lot by where the general store is, the place the car show was? I really think this is a very underutilized piece of real estate because of how far and low it is from the vendors at the top of the hill. As an added bonus I noticed the General Store had popcorn so it could serve as a concession stand as well.

I forgot all about the 4 day format! It was EXCELLENT! I used to feel much more rushed and I found a little more 'me' time and much more 'Dragon' time than my last time! That was an excellent decision!

I agree the four day format was a hit with my psyche too!

All in all there were a few minor hiccups with MOTD - but clearly nothing worth getting all riled up about.

Good job overall and kudos to Mark F and all the organizers.

Some suggestions:

Go over your printed materials with a fine tooth comb.

Delays in events, give people an option to do something else, rather than wait two hours for the Farewell Dinner to be served - post some signage and delay the dinner and allow people the time to fit in another run to the Dragon or Hell Bender.
