I thought this would be a fun thread. It's so exciting gearing up for MOTD!
My favorite at MOTD - The people! I LOVE meeting and visiting with all of you. The Dragon is fun to drive and I love all the fun things to do, but it's the socializing that does it for me. It's also wonderful to be out in nature and take a healthly break from technology.

You're right about the break from technology, I love the fact that most cellphones don't work there.
I think it forces people to have to interact with the human in front of them instead of being on the phone all the time.
I love meeting others with the common interest in motoring.
I especially love the rush of the freezing cold water as it flows through my raft on the way down the Nantahala river .
Must be the people, since I don't even bring my MINI! I love spending time with my brother, and seeing my NAM buddies face-to-face. It's like summer camp for grown-ups!

For me the great thing about MOTD is it would be worth it just for..
the people,
or just the Dragon,
or just the scenery,
or just the other roads...
You add it all up and it's a no brainer. That's why I now make a week of it.

I also love the surreal nature of the whole thing - when folks here ask about it, I tell them it's like living in a little town full of cool people, 95% of whom drive MINIs.... utopia...

I really love the feeling of being immersed in a MINI Cooper "dream town" far away from civilization (no cell phone service). The first time I drove up and saw all of the 200+ MINIs in Fontana village, it reminded me of watching the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the human guy driving his car from the real world into Toon Town. It's almost unreal seeing all of the customized MINIs, MINI vendors, and MINI enthusiasts all in one small area.
And on a more serious, adrenaline pumping, note, the Midnight on The Dragon run is also quite a memorable experience.
And this year Pamalalala, I really look forward to participating in the Monte Carlo gambling night, since I wasn't able to make it to MOTD last year.
Hey everyone!

I can't choose just one favorite thing. It's a sum of the whole that I love.
The breathtaking scenery that is so beautiful that it actually makes you stop and step outside of yourself and realize how incredible of a gift that area is to us. It makes me feel like time is going slower, instead of just driving by thinking about the final destination, I find myself relishing each moment, each curve, each change of scenery as I turn every corner. Then you pull into Fontana and it's misty out, the mountains are all around you and every cabin has multiple MINIs in their driveways, vendors all around!!! Then I get to hang out with some many MINIacs from my own neck of the woods and folks from other states that I would never have met if it were not for my MINI and the MOTD.
My favorite: The cool, crisp air that really only seems to be that fresh in the mountains. It makes for a beautiful contrast when you catch a whiff of cooking brakes at the West-side turn-around. :D
Whenever I need to 'go to my happy place', I think of a drive I took at MOTD 2006 through the smoky mountains early in the morning... fog still in the air, dense woods on the right, whitewater river on the left, windows/sunroof open and a twisty road ahead.

If it's on the configurator, IT'S NOT A "MOD"!!!

Once you get within 10 miles of Fontana, every other car (if not more) is a MINI. It's kinda freaky, but you can't help but wave at every single one of them as you already know that they are going to be waving at you! :D
