Post MOTD Maintenance

I've started a list of things I feel I need to do on my car after the MOTD fun and I thought I'd start a thread here to get any other tips from fellow enthusiasts who have more experience in this subject. My list:

(1) oil and filter change
(2) rotate tires
(3) balance wheels
(4) tranny fluid change
(5) thorough checklist

Anybody else have any suggestions for post MOTD maintenance, either from previous experience, or your current lists?

Depends on whether you rolled it or not...

I did a rotation before - and was due for dealer oil change after. And checked all fluids, etc. before. Otherwise good to go... I drive Blimey that hard almost every week.

(1) An oil and filter change is a must for me.

(2) I definitely have to rotate my tyres. I wore my Parada Spec 2s down quite a bit in the front. I didn't even scratch the same type tyres last year on my base model Cooper. I guess with the Ireland fixed camber plates and extra power, it wore them down.

(4) As far as a tranny flush, if anyone can recommend a good oil, I'll be game for it. I just don't want to prematurely wear out my gearbox by putting a bad type oil in. I do however believe that whole "maintenance free" gear oil from MINI is a load of BS.

(3) Unless you really banged your wheels up and have a bad vibration somewhere, I wouldn't worry about balancing your wheels. Then again, if you want to, it definitely won't hurt anything.

(5) Check your brakes out too. I changed my front pads and rotors about a week before MOTD, and they still seem fine, so now I'm going to redo the rears.

That's really about it for me.

If you didn't do it before coming to the dragon and you drove hard while there, a brake fluid flush would be advisable. This would also be a good time to check all of your brake pads too for unusual wear (don't ask me how I know this)

Really the only thing I would do is rotate the tires.

Keep everything else on schedule. Unless you were running in the Baja your fluids should be just fine. But a weekend of fun....fast...nornal driving on the Dragon does not warrant all that.

Save your money and time.

I forgot too mention to check your power steering fluid. Just to be incase. And Mr. Pep'r, I see where you are coming from, but some of us overdo our maintenance and have cars that keep running until they start to fall apart from rust.

BadMINI ask anyone who knows me and let me know what they say about how I take care of my rides and boat. There is a fine line of just wasting money vs. actually needing to do the work.

I have to laugh how most get so spun up about this Dragon. It is just a fun road to drive that is all....we did not become Monte Carlo racers just for going to the Dragon. The enthusiasm is wonderful but a reality check is in order.

Please do not let me stand in the way of anyone who just wants to waste money.
