Removing badge adhesive from paint

Let me preface this by saying that I tried doing a search for this info, and came up empty. I assume this is a pretty easy question. I had one of those union jack/checkered flag badges below the "COOPER" badge on my boot for a while, but it eventually fell off.

What's the best way to remove the adhesive residue without damaging the paint? Alcohol? WD-40?
