The way things go down there, "Official Car Guess" is probably more accurate. Unlike AMVIV it's pretty much impossible to get all the cars in the same place at the same time...

I know the feeling. It happens when you can't get all the cars registered due to the overwhelming numbers, plus some don't like to be counted/registered and go rogue.
With the way the entire event is set up its pretty much impossible to get any accurate count as stated before.
The only way is to go by the registrations with were 600+, but those include none drivers but also don't include people who didn't register at all.
So about 600 total cars would be my guess.
Maybe next year we should plan for a Morning Show at the Base of the Fontana Dam where the goal is to get as many MINI's in one place as possible. We could even have people at the entrance with counters seeing how many are in at one point.
You would think the Picture and Parade would attract everyone but i saw TONS of cars going the other way while i was heading to the parade....

In my experience with coordinating events, you get about 1.8 people per car on the average. So with 600+ people...that would be over 340 cars. Amazing number. However, knowing what I do of the MOTD, I wouldn't be surprised if there were over 450 cars in attendance at one point or another during the weekend.
I think the 1.8 people per car estimate is too high. A lot more people drive their MINIs solo to MOTD than most other events... why? Because it's about the car much more than almost any other organized event!
