Should i trade my mini for a 135i?

Recently I landed a good paying job that will allow me to buy a bmw 135i. My problem is i dont want two have two insurance payments and a car payment on the bimmer. Therefore if i wanted a 135i id have to do what i did with (Sophie) my beloved mini, and save up the cash and buy it. NOTE "I dont belive in car loans or monthly payments" Basicaly id have to get rid of sophie :"( and get the 135i. Me being single and 20 years old it would be foolish to have two cars finacialy speaking.

My question to you all is what would you do, or what should i do.
1 get rid of the mini buy the bmw
2 keep the mini end up putting even more money into her

The 135is im looking at are low mileage 20-50k preowned around 23-27 thousand dollars

Am i better off staying with my beloved mini ?
Am i crazy for contemplating this after a year of ownership?
Would the bmw be worth it?
What would you do?

Seriously.....
You ask this question to a mini board....
Lol....
Guess you know what folks will say already...
Ask the same question on a bimmer board.... Lol..
Just do what makes YOU happy and makes sense in YOUR situation!!

I wouldnt have seen it if it was most likely im not on here often. I would like to know what other mini bias owners thought of the 1 series. Thts particularly why i decided to ask on the mini fourms rather than bmw. If anyone has any expirence or has driven one chime in.

No i havent yet closest ive come was parking a 135i when i was working as a valet but it was an automatic and a convertable and that told me very little about it since i only would buy it in manual and in coupe form. My impression was it felt simular to the mini with more power and i liked the RWD but was bland on the inside.

i really like the more aggressive style of the 135i but i think the cooper is a more unique and "fun to drive" experience while the bimmer is a "i wanna look like a badass and go fast at the same time lol" plus the bmw is rwd so you can drift easier if youre into that lol

I would have to agree with you most definately on that javaskies. Going sideways has always been my thing as well as going fast :P But i like small cars that feel like a gokart im not shure if anything can touch the mini on the total driving expirence. Does the 135i lose alot of that planted to the road racecar feel? The last thing i want is a lazy heavy coupe that doesnt thrill like a mini could even if its going slower and not sliding around the corner

Well.. I will say this... I do like RWD.. But take one for a test drive..see if YOU like it.. If your 20 years old I would keep your MINI..or go buy a new MINI.. IMO... I just have a lot of fun driving a MINI to give it up!!

I've yet to drive a 1 series, but I've driven a 320i, a 328i, and a 335i. The 335 was a serious torque monster, and I could see myself owning it. BMW's are nice, better GT cars for sure, but I think the MINI is a more enjoyable DD. You can have fun in it every day, whereas in a BMW I think you need to be going a lot faster to have a good time.

You have a very valid point there zippy i specifically bought the mini because out of everything ive ever driven nothing was as fun everytime i get in my mini i smile. Maby i just need to dump enough power into it to feed that need for speed

I paid 27k for my then 3-year-old, fully-loaded CPO BMW X3 (literally every option).

I would never pay that for a 1 series.

Granted, I negotiated the price quite well, but still.

Jay... you just said one thing right now that stands out... You smile every time you get into your MINI.. It seems to me you do like your MINI...the question is would the 135i give you that same effect even months down the road.. MINIs are a car apart from the rest.. I smile all the time in mine..thats why I couldn't see myself in anything else right now... Dude keep it and have fun!! How much more speed are your looking for?

I understand why you could think that. the way i see it is the 1 series is a sports coupe has the engine from the 335i but weighs less so feels more nimble and is faster. How i justify it is as a slighty bigger more powerfull mini. But im wondering how close too the mini it really is?

Hmm lol lets just say i would enjoy a heathly 250-300 hp if it was cost effective but thts where i wonder if its worth it? I also ask myself that 3 months down the road would i grow tired of the bmw and having to buy new tires all the time because i burn them up to have any fun that i have in the mini anyways

I do know what your saying... to be all fair about this I would go test drive one once.. It comes down to what you really want and like!! I love power..but when I really crave the need for it... I take out the drag car to the raceway and smoke some tires!! ha ha then im good for awhile

My finance guy has a 135 and he is trading it in for a bigger car. I think a cts v. I drove his manual 135 and it is very quick and has great handling but it is not like driving a car like an m3. I have a 2013 jcw and I have to say I really like the way my car feels compared to the 135. If You want to get rid of the mini don't get a 135 save up more and get a m3 or a 1 series m. My friend with the 135 just got his last year and already is selling it so that tells me it might not be as fun as the mini. IMO.

I currently drive a 2011 128i. The 135's tamer brother. It's an excellent car but it doesn't put the smile on my face I had when my fiancé and I drove a basic rental Justa Cooper from Vegas to San Diego this past spring.

The Mini is just more fun to toss around into corners, and the gas mileage is a good 20-30% better.

Last month I put a deposit on my next car, a 2013 MCS. I don't think I'm gonna miss the BMW at all. Test driving the S I didn't stop smiling. Feels as fast as my 128i, owing largely to weight savings and is extremely satisfying to drive.

I know a lot of 1series owners who love their cars, and I like mine, but I see myself in a Mini and it's just a bit quirkier and fun.

Yes my heart goes out to the mini sigh . As far as the 1m i was planning on extensivly modding the 135i above the 1m performance anyways but thank you for that expirence. Tht seems to be pretty much what everyone says lol bimmers faster but lacks that fun factor and just doesnt have that tossability the minis have.

Way more often than not the person who sells/trades their MINI regrets it almost immediately. This goes for those who trade their "first"- usually an R50 or R53- in on a newer MINI.

Don't be another one of those people. You now own the car you will own for the rest of your life. Once you get used to your car making you smile the minute you see it and or get in it, you'll never go back.
