factory crate engines?

i currently have a 03 justa with about 112K on the odometer and i had an idea sparked from a guy i know at Eurowerks. he has a '77 scirocco with a 00's 1.8T engine (crated new from the factory)

do you think the mini dealership would be able/willing to help me order a crate 1.6T from a newer S?

You got the money they will buy a motor. But they probably not help you install it.

Much cheaper to buy a different Mini. You get the better engine as well as better everything else along with it.

Ya but when was the last time you ever heard of a "cheap project?" It's like an oxymoron when we're talking about highest performance and or custom work. The guy wants to do something unique and he probably loves his mini. Secondly, we would never see cool custom work if people just sold their car to buy a newer faster car.

Most projects aren't the most cost effective ways to get an HP number.

To the OP: The WMW JCW engine is probably the best option. You could get it and add some RMW/other engine mods to put that thing to it's full potential. The engine would also be much easier to fit under your bonnet mount wise.

And as long as you need a new hood, why not have a shop do somehing custom? I love the idea and would love to see this.

No, and there is no such thing as a new crate engine from MINI. Only refurbished engines and only for warranty things.

Other thing is the starting car is a cvt just-a-cooper.
mini will sell new anything for the $$, except for a few gp parts...
Some parts are sold only as factory reman..but since they are from the oem, they are mostly indiscernible from new...simpler and cheaper to refurbish than to restart a production process for a short production run...lets face it...there are thousands of "cores" for any mass produced car part....
MINI does install reman motors for warrenty work most of the time...the logic...you brought them a broken, used motor, underwarrenty, they only have to make you "whole", ie, give you a working item in the same or better condition, so a remanfactured part is most costeffective when they must pay for it.

Right but the OP is talking about putting a Prince motor in a R50. They stealership will not do that.

The dealership won't/can't...
but it might be possible...i wonder..size wise doubt it, but a private shop might due to the massive amount of fab work...or a diy..heck i doubt a vw dealer installed the crate motor in the sirrocro..

no the scirocco was done at a local shop. i have all of the equipment needed to fab up a mounting system
also bringing in a Under warranty engine is so far out of the question its not even funny. anyways, i looked into remanufactured engines from various places and it looks like i'll just be selling off the parts when the car dies. it's not worth repairing in most situations.

Didn't say it was impossible, just that the stealership will not do it. Fabricating and custom work like that the dealership won't do because of money and corprate doesn't like that kind of stuff.

Been done. There is a guy with a Hemi in an r53 and there is someone with a jet engine in the back of a MINI also. 13B would be a lot of work to get it work right and fit.

If I can put a Chevy crate 350 EFI engine in a 1929 Model A, putting a new engine in an older Mini should be achievable!
Now, is it a good idea---depends on your point of view I guess. It's the last thing I'd do to a mini, but that's just me.

Why not do something really unique and put a '29 Model A engine in your Mini?

A friend got a free '67 Camaro, without an engine, his Grandfather gave him a Ford flat head V8, with transmission attached, that he had in his barn. So the Camaro ended up with the flat head in it. It was a real dog and the flat head looked tiny in that Camaro engine bay, but it was basically a free car!

That's phunny! 'Reminds me of when I was a kid and dreamed of putting a hopped up Ford flathead in an Austin Healy 3000. 'Never happened, though I did build up a hopped up flathead for my 49 Ford coupe.
