WON'T START --help
My Mini Cooper S 2007 WON'T START Drove it home last night--no problem starting; this morning tries to turn over, but nothing. Radio, lights, windows all work fine. Tried to push the car and start it--no turn over
PLEASE help--I have 1.5hours to the nearest dealership--that is a huge tow truck bill!

Your post is a little confusing (I'm sure you're frustrated, but)...
If you tried push-starting the car, what do you really mean by "no turn over"? Does it even try to start firing when you try to start it with the key? "Turning over" means that the starter is spinning the engine. "Firing" is when the plugs spark and create combustion.
If the starter spins the engine ("turning over") then you have at least some battery power. If you have no combustion, then you have either no fuel or no spark (or neither).
Check all fuses first. Try (briefly) using Spray Start fluid in the intake to see if it fires. If it does, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't, you have a spark (and potentially an ECU) problem.
Good luck!
Could be a bad fuel pump (or fuel pump fuse). Could be a dead ECU (computer). I don't think Mini ignition coils are a weak link, but that would cause a "no spark" situation.
Your inertia switch could have been triggered somehow, cutting off power to the fuel pump.
Again, check for burned fuses first - both in the engine compartment and inside near the clutch pedal.

My car won't start either. Changed out the battery and the clutch switch, still nothing... No clicking or anything. It seems to be the same with or without the clutch press, so I'm thinking its not registering the clutch... Anyone know where the starter is located on the R56?
1. The clutch defeat switch (located on top of the clutch pedal), is not working and not getting a power to start the starter. Spray with WD-40 and adjust the switch height (maybe dirty too).
2. The starter solenoid is bad.
3. The battery is dead or not getting a good connections. Check the negative and positive wires. Clean the acid or clean the neg ground cable.
4. The ignition switch not touching the contact when you turn the ignition key (use a plastic nozzle and spray the hole with WD-40.
5. The security code messed up?
That's the 5 majors I could think....try the first one first.

When you tried to start it, did it try to crank over?
When i press my clutch in and hit the start button, nothing happens. If I dont touch the clutch its the same thing, nothing happens.
i have changed out the clutch switch, put in a new battery.
Any other ideas? i am located about 150 Kms from the nearest Mini dealer :(

I'm curious too. Mine won't start either'when I try' it makes a grinding noise and the fan will go on after a few attempts. Radio and lights work fine, the windows will inch up in spurts. I have the top down and encountered this problem when trying to start the engine to raise the top. 09 s, completely stock. The scary thing is I just went over 50k this week...

Sorry to hear. Mine turned out to be just the battery. I gave it a go this morning and it started ted up weakly so I let it run and went to Lowe's for a Christmas tree. I was worried b/c I didn't think it was the battery since I've left the car on for longer before. Apparently I was fiddling with the car seat longer than I thought last night.
Thanks
