Roll down the back window?

Hi, while riding in my MCS with the windows down I'm thinking, "I wish I could roll down the back window!" Has anyone ever attempted making a rear window that would roll down or up or something? I can see the trunk lid is too small for the entire window but maybe a split section that could go down? Do clubman windows roll down in the back?

It doesn't look like even the height of the window would fit into the trunk lid but who else would love to be able to rolldown the back window

many many years ago you'd buy a station wagon and the window in the back could roll down into the tailgate .... and there was usually a flip up seat back there, facing the rear. My relative with 6 kids always drove this type of vehicle.

Today, any sort of a station wagon with a split gate that might allow you to drive with the window portion open warns of the carbon monoxide risk . . . I have a Honda Element that I could/can leave the window portion open to carry long items but the owner's manual says DO NOT do it - and it certainly isn't built to support that.

Maybe pop-out rear windows like some of the later Minis had .... on my 79 the rear windows can be cracked open at the rear side and that significantly increases the cabin airflow. Now that I think about it I had a Dodge Caravan in the late 90's and it too had rear windows that did not roll down but could be cracked open at the rear end (they were even power) and that TOO significantly increased cabin air flow with the front door windows open.

SO ... hey MINI .... how about "opening" rear windows?????

I'm not so sure I'd personally want the rear window to roll down, but I've thought about what it would be like for the two rear side windows to be able to roll down (al la current mercedes coupes). I think that'd be pretty cool

You wouldn't get the driver's side rear window down, with the gas filler tube and all.

Good Point BUtters and owner A cabrio does make sense.

I was thinking the pop out window idea would work too but putting it all the way down would be awesome for highway driving. Someone out there with more time and money than me and more money than brains get on it

Just think of the amount of dust and dirt that the rear window collects......you really want that coming inside in addition to the exhaust fumes?

I rode in a Toyota Tundra (before the last body design ('06 I think) and with the rear windows down all of the leaves in the bed flew into the cab going down the road. It wasn't like the bed was filled, but anything in the rear came wooshing by my head and some of it went behind the dash, near the windshield...not a feature I would want. If you look at the boot and how quickly it gets dirty, it would be all of the dirtiness that would be in the cabin of the car...No thanks.
