On my SCD forum, I had posted that I was looking for anybody with some problem trim so I could test my latest PW on it, and this Evo showed up. On the same day, a NAM member brought his other car, this really nice AMG E63, to the shop to see what a PC and Prima could do for the paint.
It turned out the trim on the Evo could be improved with PW and BW but what I was most interested in was the horrible paint job! The owner had just purchased the car a few days earlier and the previous owner had the top surfaces repainted.

Trim at base of windshield..the lightest area is untreated, the next darkest area is PW, and the darkest area is BW over PW.
The little triangle in front of the mirror is a rubber material. The area in front of the mirror is plastic. PW made a drastic improvement on this rubber.
Only PW was used here.
The severe orange peel on the front of the bumper compared to the orange peel on the rest of the car was one giveaway of a repaint.
Knowing that the hood was beyond being saved and that a repaint was necessary, I decided to "play" a little bit. I taped off this little square and wetsanded using 1200 and 2000 Unigrit. Judging by the paint, it didn't look like the paint was ever wetsanded after the repaint.
I compounded the paint with M105 and my Makita rotary and suddenly it was evident this paint had metallic flakes!
Not sure how much improvement this made? Look at the adjacent unsanded paint.
Onwards to the next car, the AMG E63
The owner is now getting in on the action with the PC. He commented that it was MUCH easier than he expected! While I stepped out to each lunch, he polished the hood using the
7424XP Combo and
Prima Swirl.
All in all, another fun day of playing with cars and polishers!
