Congrats on the order. I picked up my new '09 MCS Convertible on 6/3/09 and am having a blast. I sold my 3 series BMW for this and the MINI is even more fun in day-to-day driving than I thought it would be - no second thoughts here.
I too, was determined to dump the run flats from the start. I live in Atlanta and had the dealer remove the Dunlop runflats before I took delivery and I purchased Michelin Pilot Sport A/S PLUS (make sure you are looking at the PLUS - it is new and I rated much higher than the older Pilot Sport A/S). Check the reviews for this tire at tirerack.com.
I wanted a quiet ride, smooth but still stiff enough for crisp handling. I have about 1100 miles on them and have been very pleased. They have a prorated 45,000 mile warranty - very rare for a V rated low profile.
Expansion joints are barely detectable compared to the "was that a 2 x 4 I just ran over?" of the runflats. Handling is very crisp and noise is low.
Good luck with your new MINI!!!
