R56 service / brake lights etc reset procedure

Posted by ONED on MINI2
OK Folks the info you have all been waiting for - sorry it took so long to compile - but have managed to get round all those R56 service light resets. The main one people are asking for is the Brake indicator reset after changing pads and fitting a new sensor, but the procedure is the same for all service indicator resets.
Please do not reset any of your service lights if you have TLC cover for this work.
I take no responsibility for how this info may be used!

Anyway......

To enter the service Menu:

Insert Key
Do not press clutch / brake
Press Start button
Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system Will run a dash light check:rolleyes:
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second of 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are Now in the Service Menu:D
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Rear Brakes

To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.

Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!

Good Luck !

Mods can you please add a copy of this Info to the FAQ & DIY Section, and can you also Sticky this?

That rocks! This car is more and more like a video game every day. The above reminds me of entering the left-left-right-right-up-down-up-down-B-A-Start code on Contra/Life Force :D

Twister,
A BIG Thanks! You saved me half a day to take it into the dealership just to have them reset it (and possibly even charging me) after I had all ready done all the work. Great post!

"now to go on a search to see how to reset the low washer fluid indicator "

This is one of the easiest resets around: take a quart of washer fluid and put it in the reservoir. Not only does this reset the light, it allows you to clean the glass without exiting the car.

(At least I assume it resets the light...I've never had mine go on, heh, heh).

Haa! You would think! But alas, the reservoir is full and yet the warning light remains :(

I have the Rear Brake Pad light on.

I tried to reset it with this DYI but I can't. I tryed to do it with the Front Brake and nothing. So I reset a simbol that looks like this: (O).

Front Brakes Reset Ok, but rear it is impossible....

Any suggestion????

It does work on all 2nd gens.Once the light check is done you immediately let go of the right button(don't let go of the left one) for about three seconds and press it again for another three or so seconds and then you should be there.

My mistake you are correct on waiting for the VIN to appear. I'm gonna make a video of the procedure since I just changed my coolant and rear brake pads so I need to to reset mine.
