I have code P1613

which is about the ASC which I do not have.... the emergency brake light is on, the DSC light, flat tire light and the ABS light are all on I think there is a wire messed up somewhere....any help?

I have DSC in my black car, and I had all those lights come on too. It turned out to be the steering wheel/angle sensor.

Replacement!

But to know for sure, the diagnostic scans (more than just OBD-II) can talk to the subsystems to see where there's an error. The accelerometers could contribute to this fault as well. If you can't get to someone with a beta of BiM-COM, try to find a shop with a GT1 or other factory diagnostic. They can scan the car. Dealer can do it to.

The Steering Angle Sensor (37-14-6-763-916) had to be replaced in my MCS because the DSC and Low Tire Pressure lights kept coming on. The list price on this part is $153, so make sure that's indeed the problem

Thanks Matt and Miniac.... I'll take it to the dealer...ouch....those guys are always looking for the most expensive way to do anything.... I have come to hate iy when I need them.

BTW RSpeed has gotten out of the Mini business we need a shop in Atlanta.... I love hector and Joe but they are not interested in keeping up.... there is a business op for someone

I'd love to open up shop. But I live in California, and I don't think I can expect all you southern boys (and girls) to drive all the way out here!

one word......relocate......with a PHD you can find a second job you might be painting houses on Saturdays....a career path I have considered...noble work and you get to see something through to completion..... I digress...I will help set up shop ...partner

Spider, before you go to Global, call Harrison Motorsports in Alpharetta, and ask to speak to Vince (head mechanic), and ask him if he can do the diagnostic. HM were discovered by the Atlanta Minis folks, and quite a few people have had good experiences there (myself included). I highly recommend you give them a try: 678.879.1200.

P.S. Vince is a third generation master mechanic, both his granddad and dad were Mercedes master mechanics, for example. The shop specializes in BMW's, but is doing a great job with the MINI crowd.

I would suggest checking the ABS sensors as well - that has been the problem everytime I've seen your symptoms (but it certainly could be the SAS as well).

So what is the verdict? I had my ABS, Tire Pressure and DSC lights on as well (as I posted in my other thread). I just hooked an OBD scanner up and came up with the P1613 code as well. Any help would be great as this is my only vehicle and I travel 45 minutes to work, with no possible public transit.

Those 3 lights typically mean a wheel speed sensor is bad. The dealer calls it a pulse generator I think. I've had two replaced under warranty.

Ok, so either steering wheel/angle sensor or a wheel speed sensor.

I cleared the codes and ran the car for a while without driving and they haven't come back on. So I would like to disconnect them one at a time tomorrow to see if the lights come back on, and then I know what to fix. I don't have a manual yet so can someone tell me where they are? Maybe add some pictures?

Those 2 parts will be it. Dont take it to the dealer. They are real easy to change!

Try http://www.realoem.com . Thats where most of us get the info. The system is closed loop. If you disconnect a part it will trigger a code. And the code is generic for the system...You can still drive the car with the lights on...BUT BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. Your ABS will NOT work and brake feel is very different. I had these lights come on about 5 years ago and the dealer replaced the SAS. And then about 3 months ago had them again. Every time I would make a hard left...the lights would pop on. Not caring (since I had 9 dash lights on) I drove the car. After about a week...the lights permanently went out. You need to clear the malfunction and drive it 3 start and drive cycles to clear the code.

Well, I wiggled and pushed and pulled all those sensors and didn't see any pinched or cut wires. I cleared the codes and have been driving for the last 3 days with no more lights coming on. Hopefully it was just a bad connection.

look at the harness at the bottom of the abs module. make sure it's not damaged by the bracket that holds the abs mod.

Sorry for the ignorance, but where is the ABS harness/module? Is it the same one mentioned above in the diagram?
