MC (Non S) - What can be done to increase HP?

Can anyone explain to me what is ment by Flash. I have a 2007 MC (Non S) and would love to increase HP. What can be done on the inexpensive side? I search & search and can't find modifications or add-ons without spending a fortune.

Start with an intake, should add about 5 or so Hp. Not sure what is available for the 07s, but something should be out there.

You might get some small gains, but not sure if it'd be worth the cost. Low-cost mods would likely add very little. It might be more fun to dial in the suspension (R50 logic) but I'd wager that'd be tricky, too, as it could go all wrong. For now...I'd say just carefully study what the tuners are up to. The ECU is still a mystery from what I can tell.

There are some performance mods released!!

If you like to add some HP, go with K&N Apollo kit intake, it's claim about 8hp increase and the price is about 270$

The exhasut, supersprint-Hamann-Mini delta has released for R56 cooper non s...

The header, Hamman and Supersprint release, but the price is very high ..

I think, if you do Header,cat-back,intake and ECU, R56 cooper could gain about 30 hp +/- .... Yes....FUN.....

But if you do only two mods like Intake and Cat-back, you can gain about 10-13 HP +/- and about 5-8 nm of torque....

My general opinion is that Cooper owners get the most gains from handling improvements rather than power increasing improvements.

Make the car handle so well that you can use your momentum rather than horsepower to stay in front!

Even in an MCS, you'll get more out of handling improvements than power improvements, IMHO.

My new 2007 MCS is completely stock. It has enough torque to spin the stock runflats in first, second, and third gears (on a track, not a public street). Why add more power? It needs grip much more than power.

On my 2003 Cooper, I did a Borla exhaust. It sounds amazing, but doesn't really make the car appreciably faster. I sometimes use an Alta foam filter element in the stock airbox. I cannot tell the difference. Every time I did a suspension upgrade or wheel / tire upgrade, the difference was much more obvious.

If you're stop light racing, you're in the wrong car.

Tires make the biggest difference. BF-Goodrich g-force sports are good and cheap. Gooyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 are better. Bridgeston RE-01-R are very good. If it's a weekend only car, Falken Azenis or Hankook RS2 z212 are cheap and really grippy (but don't last very long). If it's a track / autocross only car... R-compounds make more of a difference than probably anything else you can do to the car.

If you're autocrossing or on a track, get camber plates, a mid-sized rear swaybar, springs and dampers that work well together (I went with the JCW suspension) and you'll be in heaven.

I wonder if the new MC motor would work with say a ZC head?

I have both an MC and an MCS, and both are pretty well modded, not terribly, but certainly no longer to stock specs. That said, I have found that taking some driver's schools has considerably helped the performance of my cars and me...maybe even more than the mods I did.

I have a 2007 non s and am looking to get a exhaust and intake. What are the prices of those exhaust that where mentioned. I am holding off on wheel and handling improvements due to the winter coming.

And maybe someone could also post some links to check on the tech specs. The mentioned Supersprint Exhaust is not available for non S Mini!!!

As so many more Mods will only be available for MCS Owners. I just hope that that will change soon.

Anyone tried any of these mods? I'm hoping to get a little more power at highway speeds.

I think most of us who use forums do use the search function. I haven't been able to find any posts of anyone reporting their results with non-S R56 horsepower mods. I have read extensively about such mods in older minis though. In fact, most available mods for non-S R56 coopers are just coming out.

Awesome! Can't wait to see the results. We gotta get the 2007 MC crew psyched up. I'm sick of living vicariously through the MCS crowd.

Anyone done anything yet with their MC? I'm waiting until Spring to get the K&N Apollo intake. Not sure how much longer I can, though.

K&N 57i - Gen II

Any 2007 Mini (Non-S) installed K&N 57i - Gen II? Worth the money?

Just added Megan Racing exhaust, K&N Typhoon HAI, Kingsborne plugs and am pleased with the little extra torque over stock. Suspension is stock sports package with Hotchkis Comp rear sway bar. Of all the mods, the sway bar has the most instantaneous and dramatic effect (middle setting).

Best,
T.
