Allow myself to introduce,,,,,, myself

I placed an order for a Mini Convertible, Pure Silver, automatic (so wife can drive it too), auto ac, trip comp, cruise,,,, thats about it actually. Dealer called the next day to give me a production number and for the last 9 days I have been dutifully logging in to the owners lounge hoping*** to see my status has changed from "On Order" to "Scheduled for production". Alas,,, nothing. How long is this going to take?

Oh ya, did anyone else get surprised with a "dealer prep" fee? First I heard of it was when I was asked to sign my order form... $1,500!!! I think the shades of red that I turned let them know I wasn't kidding when I said that was a deal breaker. Got almost** all of it taken off.

Seems like a great site with lots of nice tips for Mini drivers!! Thanks!

Oh ya, one more thing, the mini convertible I drove at the dealer had some great additions to it,,, like the flip cover for the rag top, something like "Ask yourself,,, really,,, do you really want to close the top?" Looked like an ejection seat safety... also the "smoke screen" etc for the toggles,, do they still give all these out? If noe where oh where can I buy some?!?!?

Welcome to NAM. Hey, after a couple of days learning to shift, your wife may fall in love with the performance of a standard tranny. \
Either way, great choice in ride. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome! I just saw something about the 866 Mini number and called with my prod number,,, it said "scheduled for production!! No production date set but hey, Ill take what I can get.

Part of me wishes I would have gotten the manual just to have some fun with it but Ive been driving a manual TL for 4 years and my wife has been unwilling to drive it for fear of killing my transimission! Does anyone have the CVT here? Am I giving up much fun?!?

First convertible Ive owned, looking forward to taking the fam out and having some windy adventures.

First of all, CONGRATS! I also ordered my first MINI (a cool blue cabrio) about 2 weeks ago. Mine has already finished production and loaded onto a boat for the journey to the States. As I understand it, each dealer has a handful of slots for each cycle. It sounds like you've missed the April cycle and will have to wait until May. If you call your dealer, though, they should be able to tell you precisely when you're slated to go into production.

I've never seen the flip top for the convertible (sounds awesome!), but I have seen the spy kit toggle switches. I just ordered a set of my own here: http://www.minispygear.com/

You'll need a VIN # (since it's a free promo thing for mini owners), but you should be able to find that in the "lounge" as soon as your car enters production. I don't actually know if the promotion is still going on since I haven't received anything yet, but the site is up and running and taking requests.

Hope your convertible gets underway soon. Happy motoring!

Gunn I had to smile when you said you ordered an automatic so your wife could drive your Mini.I ordered my 05 for the same reason, however i had viewed another post where the same rational was used ,the very next post said ,you should shoot your wife.My wife looked at the post and said"order the 6 speed if you want".Fast forward 2 years, i have just ordered an R56 automatic for both of us and will keep the other one.Q

First up, welcome to NAM. I'm a newbie too, but so many welcomed me so I'm following suit. Truly a great website here.

I about fell out of my chair when I read this. 1500 for dealer prep!?! Give me a break! I heard folks in Seattle were getting charged 500 and I thought THAT was highway robbery. Very glad to hear you got them to take that off, but I feel sorry for the poor folks that won't know to draw the line.

The dealers are already making a tidy sum on the cars alone. It's like selling bottle water to hurricane victims for $15 a pop. Well, maybe not exactly like it, but you get my point.

Welcome to NAM, Gunn! That dealer prep charge is outrageous! Good for you, getting most of it taken off. At least it didn't say "Dealer Mark-up: $3000," which was the practice of one of the SoCal MINI dealerships back in 2002. Needless to say, I didn't purchase from them.

Trust me it crossed my mind with the manual,, but I figured I would get one of two minis... a manual MCS and go all out with another fast car or a Cabrio and really, whats the point of adding all that weight then paying for the better engine and getting a manual. Okay, I never said it was GOOD logic,,,

Thanks for the minispygear page. I still dont have a VIN but Im hoping that when I put in the VIN of a cabrio that I get the extra "safety" for the rag top.

The dealer actually did say at one point that it was basically a market adjustment since they only have so many allotments and the demand is so high. The way it was done though was very bad form, and frankly it would have made me walk away. It would have been upsetting.... dont get me wrong, but it was a deal breaker. They said they charge $2,000 for a S Cabrio... ouch.

Oh ya, I forgot I got the fog lights, front and rear,, got those too. (dont tell my wife it was basically to fill up the toggle switches)

What is this? Is this legitimate? Does this have anything to do with the decoder glasses, the various magazines with MINI ads and all that?

Yes I did, and clicked on it. Saw the whole bit about a cover for the toggle switches, but had no idea what it was all about. Thought I'd ask you folks here before I go off and sign up for something.
