I am thinking of using a OBD II connector and a gauge app so I can have have water temp and oil pressure till I figure out which gauges I want to invest in. Any suggestions for a connector and app for an I-phone

I'm not sure about oil pressure. But you sound like you would be interested in a ScangaugeII. Plugs into the obdII port and can display a ton of parameters. I was looking for one myself but decided to just go with actual gauges. I know I will be adding oil pressure and volts. I've already added a boost gauge to my S. Figuring out how and where to mount the gauges is where it gets tough.

See if you can find the OEM auxiliary gauges for your oil pressure and voltmeter. They're made by MINI and fill up that space in front of the shifter!

I've got a little rubber tray behind the cupholders, I have seen that, and considered it, but I like to toss my phone down there. I'm looking to mount the gauges somewhat eye level as well. That looks really nice though.

The Go Point dongle is the only one that I know of that offers a Bluetooth iPhone connection. There are others out there that are cheaper but connect via wifi. Go Point was developed by a friend and classmate of mine:

Yeah but I don't think there's any that can pull oil psi from the obd port. I'm not sure why. I don't know to much about these cars yet, but I suspect the pressure sensor for the oil on these is prolly just a switch to tell the computer that yes there is or no there is not pressure. That's just a guess though.

Yup.
No OBDII oil pressure sent. You'll have to install a physical one if you want it. As you mentioned it's a yes/no value from the base of the oil canister mount.

Well, thanks for confirming my suspicion. I actually just ordered my oil psi and volt gauge last night.
