So I'm thinking about getting my wheels plasti dipped. Anyone done this? Any thoughts or concerns?

I've done a lot of dipping on my car. Here is the most recent pic I have of my winter wheels. For some reason the pic was rotated 90*. But its a wheel, you get the idea.

The stuff is great. I've done quite a bit of trial and error and its peels right off (so long as you put enough product down). You get better with practice. Of course that can be said of anything.

That looks awesome , do you take the tire off of the wheel when you apply it? I'm worried that I'll screw it up lol

You don't have to take the wheel off, but these are my winter wheels so I didn't have them on my car at the time. Really it's not too hard, if you screw up just peel it off after its all dry and start over. There was a couple times I bumped the wheel and I just kept spraying over it and you could hardly tell. They're just wheels so I figured a little imperfection isn't going to hurt. Besides after a week of brake dust, whos going to know any different?

I have Plastidipped my wheels vintage gold, and I love it.

If your car has been on the road for more than a few months I would Highly recommend taking the wheel off to do it. It is nearly impossible to thoroughly clean the wheel with it on the vehicle. Now, you don't HAVE to clean the back side of the wheel like I did, I just wanted to ensure it will come off when I want it to.

Also, Make sure you put enough coats on the wheel and that each coat is thick enough but not too thick or it will run. Once you think its been coated enough just do one more coat to be safe. If it is too thin it will be a PITA to remove as it won't peel off in big chunks rather in little bitty pieces.

Spend enough time on prepping the wheel, the better the prep the cleaner the job will look.

I used almost an entire can of Plastidip on each wheel. 80%

Might want to consider spraying Plastidip Glossifier on the wheels after the paint dries. Puts a nice sheen on them.

I find about 2-3 nice wet coats of gloss makes it look very nice indeed

I've done grills, wheels and trim. The trick is to put multiple thin coats on in a warm environment. Really warm up the cans before spraying. the thicker your final coat is (within reason) the easier it is to pull off. Go for it!
