New to me 2004 MCS! Some issues...

Hey everyone! My name's Casey and this past Monday I picked up my first MCS - a 2004 Pure Silver (not the best color) but with cloth interior (sick of leather in the winter/summer months), HK sound, and a lot of quirks...

First question - should I have to hit the unlock button to get out of the car? I've never had to do that before so it seems strange to me.

2 - The hatch doesn't open from the outside. I figure the electronic mechanism probably needs to be replaced, the manual open works. How much does that cost?

3 - Passenger door lock seems slow/intermittent. Probably have to replace the door lock solenoid?

4 - Hard starting! I've done some research on this but only found that people shared the problem and haven't found a solution. A few suggested the ethanol mixture in the gas was to blame. Depending on the day, the CEL will come on after a good hard start.

5 - I smell burning coolant!! Probably the thermostat cover being cracked? Easy to do? I just finished pulling the motor on my 2.7t A6 to replace the turbos so I'm ready for anything....

But enough of that! Here's the car!

Putting on the new plates - My A6 in the background.... for sale!!

and me with the car

and one of my project Audi

Nice looking car.....!

1. It sounds like it has the auto locking doors option configured. This causes the doors to lock when you get above a predetermined speed. This can be turned off/changed at the dealer. There are lots of things they can change.

2. If you mean the key fob/lock switch doesn't open the hatch, it's not suppose to. They only unlock the hatch, not open it. You still have to open it manually.

4. Gas can cause this, also shutting off the engine too soon after starting it up can cause it to start hard later. May also be a leaking injector. Lots of possibilities.

The hatch problem is with with opening it from the outside, not with the key fob. The outside button doesn't do anything, I have to pull the cable under the rear seat to open the hatch.

I'll have to check into the injector thing... What ever is wrong it feels like an electrical or mechanical failure, not fuel. It actually starts just as hard as when I had a leaking injector (bad o-ring into the rail) on one of my Audis.
