What does the inside of a ship used for vehicles look like?
I’m curious...what does the inside of a ship used for transport of vehicles look like?
Okay, this is a bit off-topic but for us in the US, our mini’s first big trip was a ship ride across the Atlantic. So…what does the inside of a vehicle transport ship look like? Is it just like a parking garage? Do the cars get tied down or chocked? Do they get packed in like sardines? Etc, etc….
I tried looking for an example with Google but apparently I don’t have the correct “search” word(s) to find anything. If anybody has some links, pictures, or just want to describe one that you’ve seen, I’d appreciate it!
Thanks,

I found this site that has a couple of pics. It looks to like it's mostly a floating multi-level parking garage with a big ramp in the back.

Thanks for taking your time and finding those photos for me. Looks like they'll [cars] be packed in like sardines too!
It's hard to imagine the size of some of those ships. If I lived by a port I think I'd be hounding the Captains for tours.

My previous company sold equipment to the port receivers of these cars, They start coming off that ship like circus clowns out the vw. Buses ferry drivers to the ship from the huge parking lots. Then they start washing and inspecting them and put them back on the lot.
Many times they are accessorized at these facilities, ie wheels - radios etc. So what you might think is factory item was really added at the port facility.

I'll also bet that the unloading foreman must have some real horror stories..."the vehicle that needs unloading is located where? ...third one from the left side, last row????? Oh S***!!!!"

I think I saw that video too but it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't find it either. I did a search but no luck.

No problem! I actually went to Port Hueneme and was able to see all the cars after they were unloaded and being driven to the VDC. See here:https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...4-post297.html ...

Actually, I didn't see it being driven off the ship but saw it just after in the holding lot. Did you see the Flickr set (link in my sig)? My (2nd) car got off loaded on 5/29 and picked her up on 6/5.
