Sooo... I am about 800 miles on my baby now. Anyone else from week 23 noticing any rattles. I have a pretty loud trunk rattle. I think it is the boot door lock. I have an appointment on monday to get it looked at and double check my xenon alignment.

Well how about that, I just hit 800 this morning also!

No trunk rattle for me. I'm in a non-S FWIW. I think I've gotten used to most of the idiosyncrasies of the car and I haven't had any issues with it so far. I hope it stays that way for a long time.

Are you planning on an early oil change for the break-in period?

I think the dealership will do a free oil change whenever the OBC says its due, either at 15k or 1 year since the last oil change. Any other time it comes out of your wallet. Not sure about tires though...

There's a great thread in the 2nd Gen forum for a DIY oil change. I'm still not sure whether an early oil change is necessary or not. Well, I know it's not necessary, but it's a good thing to do, especially for a brand new engine.

Wow! 800 miles already? That's some serious driving. I think I'm up to 250, but since I don't have a commute...

Yes, dealership and maintenance agreement only covers oil changes when the computer tells you it needs them. A bit of a scam if you ask me.

Tires and wheels are covered by *nothing* (other than original tire manufacturer warranty if they completely delaminate in the first month or something crazy like that). That's the whole point of them trying to sell the extended tire/wheel warranty. That also means regular rotating/balancing is *not* included by dealership.

I want to do an early oil change (possible 500 or 600 miles) but it definitely won't be at the dealership. (Anyone sensing a pattern here?)

So, financing is done. Added the tire/wheel maintenance thing...I didn't realize that the all-season tires are still run flatson the 16" wheels. Had I known that I would have done something else!! Too late to change now.

I will be picking her up on Wednesday morning bright and early!!! Very excited about that! Will post pix once I pick her up!

haha i have a 13 mile commute. I have had a few nights of 5-6 hr driving on mine.

I think I may do a 3k miles oil change and then follow the computer. I plan on taking it in for Tire rotate's/balancing every 5k miles. Thats my basic plan. There is also a nice car wash place by me that will do a full wax/detail for 80$ so I am going to do that every 6 mo. Well keep an eye out for a boot rattle guys. Its kind of loud and distinct, Ill let you know how it goes at the dealer on mon.

In my JCW i don't have a problem managing the 4500 RPM limit with the sport button on. I have been rocking it almost every time I drive. I am just a little more active in my shifting and try to avoid over aggressive down shifts but other then that I am fine with it.

Must be a good feeling. All I get are weird looks and blank stares around the LA area. And there are TONS of MINIs driving around, about 5-6 a day. Oh well, I guess they just don't get it like NAMers do...

CAPO - Maybe I'll spot you on a drive down Colorado someday...

I'm starting to think there's a similar problem in ATL. I've probably passed a couple dozen other MINIs at this point and have yet to even get a sideways glance from any of them. (Most that I can see are too busy talking on their stupid phones).

The best wave I got was from another top down (or, more technically accurate, top off) BRG lover. A beautiful green Lotus Elise was stopped at a red light and as I crossed the intersection we traded waves. I was very much jealous.

Well.. today I had my first canyon run at the Angeles Crest... everything was perfect, except the 40 minutes behind a old toyota with a sign that said "Jesus is God, Read the Bible" in the back window...
