Week 40 (9/28-10/4/08) Support Group

Since I was just informed by my MA that my 2009 S will be built during Week 40, the week of September 28, and that I have a production number, I decided to start a support group for that week. Im a MINI veteran so I know many of the ins and outs of production, shipping, boats, Cosmoline, VDC, and all that stuff many of U noobs will want to know.

When did you submit your order? We placed our order at the end of July because the fleet manager said he had an allocation waiting to go. We have a production number, but we have had NO information as to production date. We originally ordered a convertible at the end of June, but when we found out that the '08's were done and we wouldn't get an '09 until March (the dealer wasn't even aware that the '08 convertible production ended), we went for the hardtop. Now I'm not even convinced we'll get the hardtop before the end of the year. I'm very disappointed with the communication that MINI has with its dealers. This is what happens when something becomes too popular.

although I *gave* my MA my build sheet mid last month when I traded in my hapless R53, the dealer did not have its allocations. By month's end they did, and yesterday my order was entered in the factory "design/msrp" database, which generates a production number (VINs are generated right before the build week.) The order sheet does not say which week, but my MA told me week 40. So yes once yr MA sends yr build into the factory order database, it will generate a production number. Other than making sure yr MA entered the right info, this is all you can do right now.

Why do I have a feeling that Ill have over 2,000 posts by the time my car is delivered??

Week 36!

I just called 1-866-ASK-MINI and found out that mine is scheduled for week 36! Wow, so one week between your production number and mine equals four week difference in actual production! Well, good luck. I'll be moving over to the Week 36 Support Group. BTW, found a really great site for tracking MINI production.

Best,
-Chris

I guess Chris and I are just switching places. I thought I was week 36 but found out via AskMINI that I'm actually a week 40. So, I join you now, awaiting the joy of MINIhood. I'm a nOOb, but I've been learning much over the past few weeks since my order was submitted. Happy to join this crew!

I for one am glad to be a w40. I wouldnt be too enthused about getting a car built the week after annual vacations, ie w36. My last MINI was built in w32 of 04--the week before annual vacations, and it was a lemony little bugger with bad fit and finish and numerous mechanical issues.

Then I'll trust you on that and be happy about waiting longer.

before i destroyed my old records I verified my 05 was actually a w34 build, but it was right before annual vacas and right after championship football games-- I was following that madness on MINI2 before I discovered NAM. I dont think anyone was in a mood to work that bloody week.

but I have 2 friends in UT and AZ that had their cars built in w36 that year (they all rode the boat over together because my car just missed a boat and was stuck at Southampton 2.5 weeks) and they're much better quality and approaching 90K with very few or no problems. kinda like the urban legend about not buying an Italian car made on mon or fri.

just think: if this was 2004 y'd been "waiting" since January... that wait was hellish. driving people crazy at work. driving my friends crazy. esp those that had no concept of a built-to-order-but-must-wait car purchase. "why are U doing that"? they asked.

best to take this approach with the wait:

I wouldn't say it is a MINI to Dealer communication as much it is an MA who doesn't know the system yet. All dealers know their allocations for each model.
I ordered mid-June and my MA knew the dealer had two 08 slots left for a Cabrio.

Quick update: as of last night, all of my desired options now show up in the OL on MINIUSA.com.

I'm still debating the bonnet stripes. My MCS is completely Astro Black, and my original configuration included white bonnet stripes. I would also want stripes on the boot with the same sort of spacing/orientation, I think, but I'm considering dropping the stripes entirely (dealer installed for $305, though I'm not sure if that's *just* bonnet stripes or bonnet + boot).

Decisions, decisions...

well, I was just informed my car has been moved up to W39 production status, and was told by ASKMINI to call back in two weeks because the operator told me there's a good chance I could be moved up even further. So everyone check out and see if their status has changed.

Good luck to all! Be patient, it's worth it!

HTClubman and I are new members of the week 40 club. I was so happy to see our Clubman S with an On Order status at the owners lounge. We were originally going to be week 4-8 or 2009 from South Bay Mini, but found that LV Mini could get it faster so we put in an order there. Now I just need to cancel our other order. I was holding off for a friend to take over our spot, but they have not been able to make a decision yet on what to buy.

We are so excited to be week 40!!!

Just call 866 Ask Mini and it shows us at Week 38 instead of 40.
