New owner in Nashville

Hello, fellow Mini lovers. I'm a recent convert to the group- I just surprised my wife with a Mini b/c all I've heard for the past 5 years is "I want a Mini Cooper", over and over like a broken record. I just thought they were so impractical- silly little toy cars. But, I finally gave in- I thought what the hell, she deserves to have something she really wants- why does she have to be the one with the practical family car? So, I traded my truck on an '04 Cooper and took her sensible SUV. Little did I know I was going to become a Mini fanatic! This is the most "fun to drive" car I've ever driven! She loves it b/c it's cute- I love it b/c it's a blast to drive fast on twisty roads!!! I didn't realize it was a sports car, and I just wasn't thinking about the BMW engineering. Now I want to trade the SUV and get an S with the 6 speed Gertrag. To hell with practicality! We'll just take two cars whenever we do family trips!

Cool! We've learned to pack very light for weekend trips. I've taken longer trips and just pack with a backpacker's mentality. Life is actually much nicer when you bring less stuff. The car is comfortable and fast on trips.

As a side note I recently took a 600 mile trip in a work Tahoe. I was thrilled to find the highway blocked by a lost load of hay to add a little interest to the trip. Otherwise, it was like sitting in an empty stadium for half a day each way.

wlbjr, congrats on the MINI. We were just at a Mod party a few weeks ago with the Nashville group. They are planning a run to Jack Daniels in Lynchburg soon if you want to get a taste of what the MINI community is like. Check out their site at http://www.midtnminis.com/ .

I found this one at a Mazda dealership. It was the only used automatic I could find in Nashville. For me, it will be the 6 speed- but the wife prefers automatic...
