Question for the Colorado people!

Being from the VERY FLAT coastal plains (and extremely wet right now), we are really looking forward to this trip. We're are planning to extend our adventure a few more days at Estes Park but have a problem. Where the heck to stay! Have spent many hours looking at places but aren't any closer to choosing. We are trying to stay in the less than $110 catagory (leaves more cash to buy MINI items!), non smoking is a plus. Does anyone have a few suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for the post

Know that you have picked the #1 tourist destination in Colorado and #2 a place we all love.

There are a few options.

Contact the YMCA of the Rockies, there. Does not sound like much but it is nice. Also contact the Chamber. I will see what else I can do also.

My vote goes for the YMCA of the Rockies. Sounds cheesy but they have some of the best cabins and views I've seen in that area. If you have kids then there are lots of activities for them to do. If you don't then there are still lots of activities for you to do. Go for a horseback ride or something.

If you're a Stephen King fan then don't forget to visit the Stanley Hotel. That's where they filmed The Shining. It has a few haunted rooms there as well but I doubt they'll let you check them out unless you actually stayed in those rooms.

Great choice of area to stay an extra few days. Good luck with the rest of the tourists.

Well, if it were possible to avoid peak tourist time, we would. But since we are in the neighborhood.... I had to laugh when you both mentioned the YMCA. I thought you were out of your minds! But before I replied, I went in search of this mythical beast. Okay, you aren't out of your minds. Will consider it, but seems to be a rather large place. A few too many people. Anybody know of something a little smaller? Thanks.

The YMCA is large but you can't beat the price if you can get in. You could always go camping like MMB suggested. I doubt you'll get rooms at the Stanley Hotel for under $110 but you can always try. If you're not fond of ghosts then stay away from room 401. I can't remember the other rooms that were haunted though.

Here's a link to the Estes Park Chamber of Commerce site. You can pick what you're looking for and it'll give you a page of places that meets your criteria.

Here's another link for Bed and Breakfasts:

Another suggestion

is VRBO Vacation Rentals by Owner. An acquaintance used the service recently and found a property to use in Estes without problem. Most are listed by a RE service or company, this is just the broker. But they say it seemed as if there were plenty of choices.

Good luck with this option..... www.vrbo.com

I lived in Texas for four years; I dropped the accent but still haven't lost the exaggeration .

So can you really sleep in that thing without feeling like your about to be buried . It looks really good with your Mini .

The bed is

8' long 4' wide.
in addition you have the extras
AM/FM/CD/DVD/IPOD/XM/Computer/dual reading lights/12volt/110 hook ups
in the process of hooking up an external AC unit.
Ahhhhh All the comforts of home.
And thanks for the complements. I never get used to how many I get. It never gets old.

How about Longmont,Colo?

Just 33 miles to the SE from Estes Park is Longmont with a wide selection of hotels (Super 8, Comfort Inn, etc). The drive on US-36 from Longmont to Estes Park is nice and quick. Might be worth considering...

It sounds like he will be running a lucrative corn business out of the back of the dragon wagon. Shouldn’t you have a license for something like that?

only one problem

the trailer is built for speed not weight. So you fill it with a bunker crop and the axle sags to the ground

That was the original "thong song" - Stuck in the Middle with You

Note: Steelers Wheels is/was Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan.

The first verse is correctly shown as:

Well I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me
Jokers to the right, here I am

Stuck in the middle with you

The second verse is:

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right
Here I am, Stuck in the middle with you.

Bridge:

Well you started out with nothing and you're proud that you're a
self made man
And your friends, they all come crawlin, slap you on the back and say
Please.... Please.....

Third Verse:

Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see that it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor
Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns...

(Intrumental Verse)
(Bridge)
(Repeat first verse)
