Ride # 1 - Top of the Rockies / Leadville Loop Scenic Byway
Ride #1 at the MitM event this summer shapes up as follows:
"Top of the Rockies / Leadville Loop Scenic Byway" - Copper Mountain Resort to Leadville to Minturn to Vail to Copper Mountain Resort - Leadville is the highest (altitude, not smoke) community in the United States and this route takes you over 10,404 ft Tennessee Pass, Past Camp Hale (home of the 10th Mountain Division), past Ski Cooper Resort, into the picturesque town of Minturn, down the flower lined streets of Vail, CO and then back to Copper Mountain Resort.
This ride is about 75 miles of gentle and scenic terrain. Be sure to allow time to explore historic Leadville (circle into town and back) and perhaps the national Mining Hall of Fame. Enjoy the gentle ride down towards Minturn and a possible food stop at Chili Willy's, JB's Barbeque, the Minturn Country Club and the Minturn Saloon. Around the corner and down the highway a mile or two you find Vail, CO. ( www.vail.com ) for some shopping, then back to Copper Mountain for another ride.
We were in Leadville a few years ago and there is one awesome home-cookin place right at the (southern I think) edge of town. Awesome Catfish, Roast, gooooood home-cookin.

I will go there, check it out (Joe Bob Briggs) and post a report for all to enjoy, and plan on. It is less than 20 mi from Copper so should be easy to nail.
