I have and would reccomend the in house Canon equivalent to the dot line.

There are several advantages provided bya relase that the selftimer can't provide,

*etended "bulb" release
*no camera shake during action shots where you need the shutter to go now not in 10 sec
*ability to place camaeraon mount on car andtake rolling shors when camera is out of photographers reach
