Who got BURN from the Exhaust Tip?

I was unloading stuff from the trunk after driving for awhile I felt some HOT on my leg and realized that I got a burn from the exhaust tips. It happened twice now I have a huge arch shaped burn on my shin.
Anyone got similar burn?

Branded...

Yeah...it happened to me just yesterday. Same scenario. Got branded by my MCS right on the left shin...and it hurt like hell. I almost feel like there is a special bond now between my car and I...

Excuse me, but that would be known as a "Pipe Hickey". Bikers are all too familiar with the phenomenon. I have several from a lifetime of smoked skin. My wife got her first from my 1980 Suzuki GS550E when we were dating.

Consider it a bond between yourself and your MINI.

Yes, I've been burned....though I prefer to think of it as "marking" my MINI with my DNA.

I've learned to do a goofy-looking straddle around the center pipes on my MCS everytime I put the car cover on after a drive. Otherwise, it's OUCHVILLE!!!

take care of what exactly? All car exhausts get hot...it kinda comes with the job. The only option would be a hidden exhaust like on VW's.

My bro and roommate have both burned their legs on my 02 cooper...i just steer clear of it after long runs.

Not an issue with the MC since the pipe isn't in the middle

I have had 3 cars prior to my MCS and never been burnt by an exhaust tip. '07 MCS comes with moderately larger tip that sticks out in the middle of the car so definitely increases the chance of getting a burn.
First time was ok and i felt like i had a special bond with my mini but after 2nd time with a huge burn mark it's getting annoying .
Well. I'm glad i'm not the only one.
Happy Motoring!

I haven't looked at the '07s but the exhaust tips are usually just held on with one flathead screw. If not a quick and cheap mod at a muffler shop should do the trick. In theory they should be flush or less with the diffuser. Seems to be an inherit danger of center mounted exhausts.

For what, stepping into a hot exhaust tip? If it's a huge deal maybe a recall to pull the tip back a bit. But if it was such a big deal, then we wouldn't have motorcycles anymore because too many people would burn themselves on the exhaust pipes. Engines are hot, and thus have hot exhaust tips, it's a matter of science and nothing can be done to stop it from being hot.

I can see it now All MCS owners will get a butt-ugly sticker in the mail to be placed on the bumper cover immediately above the tailpipe:

Warning: Exhaust gasses are hot (duh)! Please stay clear of the tailpipe after driving and while accessing the boot. Serious burns are possible. Please consult your motoring manual.

This is kinda rediculous. You should know the exhaust is right there, as it's a major design element. Use some common sense and NOT put your leg next to the hot exhaust.

I haven't heard or read a single complaint of the R53 design, which is, amazingly, very similar to the R56. The R53 owners have been doing just fine for the last 5+ years.

Anyone got similar burn?
My wife had a similar experience this past weekend while we were taking groceries out of her MC.

I have not grocery shopped with the MINI and have not load/unloaded from the back yet. I don't like the way VW cars look with the exhaust pipes pointing down under the bumper but I guess that is the safer way to go. I like my MINI the way it is. MINI didn't forget to put the warning clause in the owners manual also. We will all just have to be more careful.
