Reprogram key, how???

My remotekey to my 6/2005 Mini Cooper S isn´t working anymore but how is the procedure to reprogram the remote in the key. I mean the doors and sunroof etc. I can´t find it anywhere, so if someone can help me, I will be glad. There is power enough in the key, so it must the code which has dissapeared.

I believe you have to have the Dealer perform the programming (or in your case, reprogramming).

take a good working key and insert it in the ignition.

turn the ign. to the second position, and then turn it off.

remove key

press and hold the unlock button and then press the lock button 3 times.
let go of both buttons and you should hear the locks cycle.

then pick up your "bad" key and press and hold the unlock button and press the lock button 3 times. (do not insert it in the ignition)

let go of both buttons and you should again hear the locks cycle.

if you don't have both keys with you, you will only program the one you have in your hand and loose the programming on the other one.

you have to do this quickly so try it a couple of times and it should work for you.
good luck!

I have tried your solution, but my car isn´t responding on it. If the procedure is the right one, there must be some other problem, but what it is, I do not know. Some one has another good idea to help me.

The above post is correct, but here are steps with a little more detail. You may have to do it a couple times to get it right--the timing is critical.

[SIZE=2]Have all the keys with you when you get in the car.

1. Get in the car and shut the doors (don't open until done).

2. Put a key in the ignition and turn it to the first click then back and take the key out within five seconds.

3. HOLD DOWN the unlock button, and press the lock button 3 times, then release the unlock button. The doors of the car should lock or unlock. Don't touch the doors or door locks. Repeat this step (and only this step) with all keys to be programmed.

4. Open the door or put a key in the ignition to end programming.

5. Try the lock and unlock on all the keys. If they don't work, try again. If the problem cannot be resolved, take the car to the dealer.

Good luck.

The receiver is near the rear view mirror, so it may help to hold the keys near the mirror. The procedure described above is what the dealer did for me, and it worked the second time they tried.

It is also possible the key is broken. That is what the dealer told me about mine. When I heard what it cost to replace it, I did the only manly thing and swapped keys with my wife!

That said, I intend to print and try this approach several times. I'd like to have my key with the shiny bits back.

Uuh... dumb question...

Did you replace the battery in the key?

You say there's power in the key, but.. for a few bucks, you can save yourself a lot of trouble by making SURE it's not the battery.

There is 3 volt in my key and I have also bought a new key, which did not success either. I think the problem is my rear view mirror, because my car have had a damage where the front wind shield was damaged and perhaps there has been some water/rain in the mirror. So if someone has a rear view mirror for sale, I am interested. Mu car is a US model with 315 MHz transmission.

you cannot change the batteries in these remotes as they are rechargable thru the ignition everytime you use the key.

if the reprogramming doesnt work you have a bad receiver/rear view mirror.

The keys for 2004 and earlier are not recharged by the car and the battery (radio shack) must be changed. So far my 9/03 build has the original batteries but one key is "weak". I plan to print out the above instructions for reference!
